Default Camp out to Raise Money for Child Poverty in Alberta

Howdy,

I was at my work camp in N Alberta today, and I had this great idea on how to raise money for child poverty in Alberta. I want to pitch a tent in January, and camp out, until I raise $25,000 for child poverty in Alberta. I will look for a second volunteer, and some sponsors.

It can either be in Edmonton or Calgary. However, I think this would be a great idea to raise awareness, in regards to the issue. No child should have to miss meals, or not be able to afford proper clothing, shelter, and care. I'm going to ask my company if they would be down for letting me use their roof.

I was wondering what everyone thought of this idea? I know firefighters have done similar things for charity in the past.

I'd definitely support you, but that's a fairly lofty goal for one, (I'm assuming) unknown guy. You may get a couple hundred bucks from the CP crowd. Not saying it isn't doable, but these kinds of things happen every year with well known companies, and they're not even talked about too much.

Good luck if you decide to go through with it!

Where does the money go and how much will it cost for your sleeping bag and tent.

Also don't use a stove of anykind in your tent unless it is vented to the outside. Opening the tent door doesn't count.

I'm pretty sure this happens more in Calgary than Edmonton, as the weather is warmer, and for some reason, there is more of a community type feel. I'm closer to Edmonton, but I will look into both cities.

I think this would work, if I could get enough publicity, and sponsorship. There is no harm in trying. And to answer your question, all money will go to children's charity. I haven't really decided yet, as it's a couple of months away. I'll ask some of them (Salvation Army, Mustard Seed, etc) if I can donate all the money raised to them?
