Chelios open to playing again
http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=436170
Would consider playing with his sons in Europe if the opportunity came up.
I think that's pretty awesome. He's in great shape, and if he loves the game, why not? Always do what you want to do, and don't let others tell you you can't.

Maybe he'll do the Gordie Howe thing and skate a shift for his new decade?

Maybe another reason Edmonton moved Smid to make room?

I remember in 2001 When I went to my first NHL game. Chelios must of been playing for the wings at the time. I can remember someone from the crowd yelling at him in warm up, "CHELIOUS TIME TO SIGN A CONTRACT WITH A RETIREMENT HOME YA F'N PYLON!"

The problem for you Cheli, is that when Gordie Howe played at that age, most of the rest of hockey till embraced the beer culture. Its much more serious these days, and Europe is no different.

I still think about when he was playing well into his 40s and he stated one of the ways he kept in shake was stationary biking in a sauna.

I don't care if he's an old #######, I'd love to see Cheli play again.

Has anyone suggested that he could go to the Oilers to replace Smid?
Because that would be funny.

I think they need more players in the Iron League.

I was just talking about this with a friend of mine last night. He works at the Sheraton. He was going to the sauna, opened the door and Chelly had dragged in one of the exercise bikes from the gym. 45+ minutes in there, no water.

My initial thought was that I think Chelios can still play as he is known for keeping himself in great shape and had legendary conditioning. It's been a few years but he still looked like a capable AHL player in 09-10.
But then I read this:
Quote:
"Could I play eight or 10 minutes a night on a good team like the Wings? Maybe. But no. I always said it was going to be a physical thing why I couldn’t play, and towards the end of my career I couldn’t train because of my left knee. That’s what really limited me. I couldn’t do the heavy workload in the gym to get to the level I always was at. So basically, to answer your question, no, I couldn’t have kept playing.
“I don’t skate a whole lot. I’m on the ice pushing pucks and blowing whistles. When I do skate hard in practice, I feel it for the next day or two, but it goes away. For the Winter Classic [alumni event], I was thinking of skating, getting in shape, working real hard with [former Wings center] Kris Draper and his crew. But for me, it’s better just to do things that don’t hurt and get my conditioning. I’m not going to skate, because I think if I did, it would be killing me by the time the game rolls around.

I'm surprised he's interested in his sons. I always assumed he played so long because he hates his family.
