They cant.

They signed him to a long term contract, they still have Krueger they are paying, and are they wont want to be paying a 3rd coach

In fact, are they still footing some of Renney's contract?

Talk about shuffling the chairs on the titanic....

Eakins is not the problem. It's Kevin Lowe, MacT, and literally the entire supporting staff up there. They need to fire everyone.

They need to get rid of Lowe.
Hiring Mac t and Eakins doesn't solve any problems.

If I was coaching the Oil I'd beg them to fire me.

So in that case they need to do the exact opposite of what you said. Steady as she goes.

Its painfully obvious even to the most ardent Oil fan that it isnt the coach. It never was the coach. Not renney, not Krueger, not Eakins.

Its the players...and thats why they are so hooped.

MacT has only a couple options to try and change the culture there. They wont deal Nugent-Hopkins, nor should they, they wont trade Hall either...so that leaves Eberle and Yakupov. They are not going to get what they need by dealing just one of them, so that would require dealing both...almost assuredly in seperate deals.

With what they have shown of late...the value is not going to be there like they need, so they will have to "add" to complete the trades for the pieces needed....in others words "overpay" and then hope like hell there is an improvement on the ice AND they have chemistry with the young guys who are very transparently...running that room.

It truly is an NHL version of a trainwreck.

Eakins is Lowe's latest meat shield.

How many coaches would they be paying? There's Renney, Kruger, Eakins and then whoever came in. Too funny.

Wonder if coaches will start turning down opportunities from the Oilers. That's a career-killer.

Eakins is going to have to be escorted by Rexall Security Staff to take his daughter to school. Someone needs to protect him from the school yard bullies.

I am afraid the bullying is only going to get worse

Lowe will take his 6 rings, put them in a hat, bury his face in the hat, and let the rings tell him what to do. He's a modern day Joseph Smith.

Dum dumdumdum Dum!

You have to think a big trade would be in the works before firing the coach!

Lowe will have to fall on the sword this year. My guess is Messier takes his job

Who's going to make him fall on his sword? The owner is some dude who lives in Vancouver, and probably doesn't give a damn about the performance because he got his arena.

This tragedy will remain for years.
