PK Subban has to be thrilled to see this deal. He's going to cash in big time.

Subban's deal will have to be north of 6 mill now..

Markov - 5.75 pending UFA
Jorges - 3.9
Emlin - 4.1
Subban - 6+

Top 4 paid 20ish mill.

I can't stand that Yemelin guy after seeing him play for team Russia a few times. His diving skills put Kesler to shame. A good player but a disgrace to the game. Wouldn't want him on the Flames.

Here are a couple of beauties from the same game:

I think before this signing, the Habs had only 1 defenseman under contract for next season. I think it's a tad high, but I love the physicality this guy brings to their smurf lineup.

It was easily going to be north of 6 prior to this contract, imo.

Whoa, that seems like alot. Granted I haven't seen him a ton but that seems like an overpayment.

They are going to have to give Subban $8million for 8 years.

THIS is an absurd contract. The guy has not done anything to warrant these dollars.

Emelin has a lot of potential. Good signing if not a tad bit high. Can't really blame them for sticking with someone they obviously like.

Haven't watched Emelin a ton to judge here, but that seems like a ton of money for a guy that is a No. 4 d-man on that team at best.

Bergevin seems to draft well but not sold on the rest of his GM abilities.

seems fair IF he takes where he left off after ACL and MCL surgery in May....... that is taking 6 months to recover from.

He was signed for this season why couldn't the Canadiens waits until he played 20 games this year before signing him to this contract.

Edmonton extended Horcoff to a huge contract when he was injured and he has never come close to being the player he was before the injury.

Ray Whitney was worth a whole lot before he was injured and not anywhere close after.

Why wouldn't they wait?? What sort of season would Emelin have to have to push his contact higher? He is getting paid as though he was never injured and was playing at the level he was last year.

Too risky for a guy that has only played slightly over 100 NHL games and hasn't played since a major knee injury.

Funny that on tsn they're saying its a good deal and then they show his big hits and it mostly looks like just 2 guys running into eachother lol. He's over rated

Handing out a contract based on potential is a dangerous precedent to set. I am loving the contract that Feaster gave Brodie this year asking him to show them he can do it again. So far he hasn't (not saying that he won't) so Feaster looks pretty smart right now.

Habs may or may not regret this, but it's going to be tough to justify asking a young talented player to take less money in the short term until they prove that they deserve the big dollars.
