Butler - You Knew This Was Coming
His 'body of work' is atrocious.....tonight was just gaff after gaff.
Please try Sieloff, Wotherspoon or Cundari....
I hope this is the last Butler thread ever.......please, move him off the active roster. If he remains, someone must be liable for the heart attack that I am likely to suffer.

I've defended Butler in the past, however the player should have no future with the Flames.
He's a fringe NHLer who has remained a consistant NHL because of the Regehr trade.

Just a bad game from that pairing tonight. Just brutal decision making by Butler all night. Have to think we see Smith in for either him or O'Brien on Saturday.

If he was acquired by Sutter I have a feeling he would be gone but he's a Feaster guy. If they would have cut ties with him earlier it would have been much better, but instead Feaster hands him a 1.5M contract and keeps praying he pulls through.
Hopefully Breen's here and playing after his conditioning stint.

I used to defend this guy... Because I thought he sucked because he was playing top pairing minutes... Well I have been humbled... He sucks no matter what pairing he is on...
It's scary when I thought SOB actually looked like an ok defenseman next to Butler.
I hope Smith draws in next game and Butler gets to eat popcorn in the press box..

is "you knew this was coming" about the inevitable butler hate thread? or that he would play a game with a defensive blunder every shift?
Either way, yes, he is only being kept on the roster due to being one of "feaster's boys". This was quite evident after setting the nhl +/- record a few seasons ago.
I refuse to believe that Cundari or Breen could not be more effective than Butler.

Terrible. He was just ok the first few games but man, he is playing his way out of the NHL.

I said this in the game thread but I'll say it again- Paging Derek Smith. For the love of God, Hartley, please put Smith in next game. Or call up Breen from Abbotsford. No more Butler.

There is simply no chance that Butler is our #6 best Dman.
Feaster, Burke, or the Almighty Himself have got to enlighten Hartley....
Where is Butler's upside?
Slow - check
Can't move the puck (other than to an opponent's stick) - check
Mentally craps the bed periodically - check
No offensive upside - check
If Hartley plays him....I think the coach should get a game misconduct even before the puck drops.

Being traded for a long time Flame gets you games for the sake of optics ... even when the optics are like staring into the sun.

Buffalo bent us over hard. The fact they got two 2nds for Regehr makes it sting more.

I mentioned this in the PGT, but I thought O'Brien had a decent game. He snuck a few shots through that Fasth didn't see. Following Butler from his Buffalo days, I have no idea how he's lasted this long in the NHL. He's not a great skater or puck mover. He isn't physical or smart. He's blocking shots this year, but he hasn't done anything else except make poor positions with the puck. I'm hoping Smith is in for Butler on Saturday.
