Potentially Blasphemous Topic, but Sedins?
Now I realize that I am treading in potentially banned territory, and possibly this is motivated by my absolute contempt for the Canucks franchise (after living here for 10 years, they have exceeded the irrational, teenage, utter distain I had for the Oilers in the 80's), I was thinking...
Do you offer the Sedin's a 2 year big money deal this summer if Gillis can't get it done? I was listening to the boys on the 'Team arrogantly going on about how the twins are stuck, as no other team could take on $12+ mil per year.
I'm not huge fans of theirs, but they could be a nice placeholder till some of our young guys develop, plus it would absolutely screw the Canucks (although that is not a good reason to sign them).
The money is there, and they are a better option than Stajan & Glencross.
Should I focus more at work, or am I not crazy?

If you can get them 1-3 years. However, the reality of the situation is that both will be looking for 6+ year contracts. This is Vancouver's franchise crippling mistake to make.

I think it would take significantly more than $12 million to sign them. Probably closer to the $16-$17 million mark. They're 2nd and 5th in total points over the last 5 seasons, along with Stamkos, St. Louis, and Ovechkin.
That said, do not want!!! Whoever signs these guys is going to end up with 2 semi-productive years and then multiple years of overpaid boat anchors.

In any situation I could see Detroit unloading players to make it work. Or the Rangers.

It would be funny for us to snag their 2 best players. But it would be completely against the mandate of our rebuild to this point.

Big pass. The Flames should be targeting and developing younger players to be part of the core for years to come. The Sedins are very skilled players, but at their age and at the potentially huge price tag? Doesn't make much sense for the Flames.

I agree Kootenay FF, but we will need to add some Vet's and $$ to our roster next year. For 2 years, money is not really an issue. If you could trade, for example Stajan and Cammi, for the Twins would you? That is essentially what we would be replacing them with (just at a higher cost).
Without good Vet's to help develop young players, you end up with an Oil-Change.

I don't have a problem with it, but if we are dropping 12M on free agents I would rather sign Vanek for 6.5 (to replace Cammy) and Girardi for around 4 (to round out the top 4).
Girardi and either Brodie/Wideman as one pairing with Gio playing with the other. That is a pretty legit top 4. Then you can have a combo of Breen/Russel/Sieloff/Wotherspoon (whomever wins the job) in the bottom pairing.
Baertschi/Monahan/Vanek line... Yes please.
(However I doubt either of these scenarios are realistic)

The Flames being in the position they are in aligns perfectly for a decent shot at McDavid. I would rather have an 8% chance at a shot for McDavid then the Sedin's for two years.

If (and at this point it is still a fairly big if) Cammalleri and Stajan were traded at the deadline for picks, we are looking at $9.5m off of the cap.
Even if we were to keep them at the same rate (and Stempniak too), and kept our cap where it is this year, that would likely leave us under the floor next year. So trading Cammy and Stajan (for picks) would leave us miles under the floor.
Regardless of the rebuild, we are going to have to hit the free agent market hard in the summer. That being the case, would I throw money at the Sedins?
On a 2 year deal - why not? However, by all reports, they want term. They would only come here if we offered substantially more cash, or substantially more term than the Nucks offer.
And either of those things would be a bad idea.
It will be interesting to see where the cash goes, but I doubt it's to the Sedins.

With the Sedins you have to sign both of them and play them in the top 6, meaning 2 of our prospects wont have top 6 minutes. It is better to sign one guy to support the transition for Monahan and Baerschi to the top 2 lines rather than signing the sedins and regulating our most offensive prospects into bottom 6 positions.

It is sad days when somebody on CP contemplates signing the damn sisters. I think I just threw up in my mouth a little.

There is also a good chance that Gaudreau is here next year. Without sounding too much like Ricarodw's RGR, adding the Sedins would get us right back to being too soft.
I would rather see us sign guys who can support the youth (more guys like Galiardi and Jones) and shore up the D (and whatever other holes this season casts a light on)
