“This is by far the best team that we’ve played, but at the same, this was by far our worst game,” Flames head coach Bob Hartley said. “We made some bad decisions during the play that cost us some goals. We made some bad decisions that we went to box for a few unnecessary reasons, and there was also some bad luck.

“It seemed like we had no focus, and when you have no focus especially against a team like this, you have no chance to win.”

“It’s exciting,” said Pelech, 26, following the morning skate. “It was a while ago, so there’s not too many guys that I actually know. There’s a couple of guys I played with in Abbotsford.”

“The disappointment is more in me, in that I didn’t take the necessary steps to get up and help that organization. They drafted me. They gave me a chance,” Pelech said. “I’m very fortunate here that I get to be in the lineup and I get to try and earn a spot in the lineup every night.”

“How would I describe the Brent Burns look?” laughs McLellan. “Scary. He played in the league, at 18 as an underage, I believe. Then at 19 he played for me in Houston during the lockout in ’05. Back then he couldn’t even grow hair on his face. He was 35 pounds lighter. Now he’s packed on some beef and he’s loaded with air.

There is no joy in watching one of the all-time great ones fight the puck. No joy in recognizing the Devils’ all-time player has reached a passage in his career in which he likely will yield his No. 1 spot to a younger man.

No joy in watching one of the great athletes who has ever represented a metropolitan area team look less than ordinary and, at least for the moment, be as much part of the problem as the solution.

He's always been willing to drop his mitts. IIRC he played some forward for our AHL teams too. I thought we gave up too early on him, oh well water under the bridge.

I had a detailed post about the great character of TJ when he was first traded to the flames. It was followed by someone claiming he was a cancer in the SJ dressing room.

I am glad that it didn't take long for his personality/work ethic/leadership, etc to show. Anyone who thought for a minute he was a issue in the SJ dressing room now knows its complete garbage.

Call it what you want — the Caveman look, Chewbacca in a jersey — but Sharks forward Brent Burns is giving it up for charity.

Yes, all that hair is going to meet the razor blade.

The goal is to raise $5,000 for each of two charities — Defending the Blue Line, which provides hockey equipment and other services for children in military families, and the Katie Moore Foundation, which aids families dealing with rare cancers.

Burns has agreed to let an unspecified teammate give him a buzz cut and shave his beard on Nov. 1. Until then, the Sharks Foundation will accept contributions for the two charities.

As added incentive, anyone donating $50 or more will get signed "before and after" photos and the top three donors will be able to witness the shaving.
