Default The Flames are in a four way tie for first in the league.

Sure we've played 5 games and there's a long road trip ahead, but before the season started, who would have bet money that almost two weeks into the season the flames would be tied for first.

Great hockey too.

We sure did....I love it when new threads are created to discuss the minutiae of the flames season. Had this thread not been created, the discussion would have been lost within the background noise of other flames related discussions.

Anyways, I wonder if there any kind of prop bet you could have made on this happening. I am going to pull up the conference standings and have a look at the possible first round playoff match ups and play "if the season were to end today" game.....

As nice as the 3-0-2 start has been I wouldn't not be surprised to see the Flames hit a rough patch in the next few games.

I hope we can keep up a great effort.

Go Flames Go

There's going to be a million "fire feaster/hartley/burke" and "trade sven/sean/cammy/gio" threads over the next 12 months due to the ups and downs of following a team....just celebrate the good times and enjoy the excitement

I'm too lazy to look it up,but how do these first five games points compare with the first five game points standings of the last five seasons?I'm well aware that bitter reality will strike soon, but one has to think this is the best start to a season that we have seen in a long, long time...

As good as the moment feels, it only has been 5 games. Lets not get ahead of ourselves and still prepare for the worst. Its not how you start, its how you finish.

According to the Flames Fan Poll on the official Flames site, this is the best start in franchise history. Never mind the last five seasons. This is also mentioned in a post game article on the site.

Just as important, the Edmonton Oilers have sole possession of 28th!

So you want to dampen our excitement before we get ahead of ourselves, hmm.

2012-13 1-3-1 Iginla no goals 3 assists -2, Bouwmeester 1 goal 2 assists -2, Flames after 10 3-4-3

2011-12 2-3-0 Iginla 1 goal no assist -2, Bouwmeester 1 goal 1 assist +1 Flames after 10 4-5-1

2010-11 3-2-0 Iginla 1 goal 1 assist -1, Bouwmeester no goals no assists -1 , Flames after 10 6-4-0

2009-10 4-1-0 Iginla 1 goal 2 assists -2, Bouwmeester no goals 3 assists +2 Flames after 10 7-2-1

2008-09 1-3-1 Iginla 1 goal 2 assists -5, Flames after 10 6-3-1

2009-10 ... the start of the Bouwmeester era and the end of the Flames being a playoff team started with 4 straight wins.

For the first time in a long time i'm actually excited about the season. The team looks good and i'm not watching a boring, lackluster effort. You can tell these guys want to be on the ice. I hope they keep it up.

Way to rebuild a culture of losing Edmonton.

The one thing I am liking is that last season, and especially the season before, it seemed like if the Flames were down late in the game, you could pretty much count them out. In fact, it seemed like their comeback potential in general was terrible. So far (and I know it's too early to relax), there seems to be more of a clutch factor. I realize that they have been giving up leads as well, but even after that, they don't seem to quit. They seem less emotionally fragile (if maybe a little more mistake prone due to lack of experience, but at this point I will gladly take that trade off).

All of our games have been close, so I am apprehensive about how much the current record can be used as a predictor, but as long as we are having fun now, who cares... No one can say this team is boring.

Well, fear not. The team will work its way out of this. Just keep the faith. Team leaders will mentor the young guys on how to play for the prize - top 3 draft pick. You had to think that it would take a few games before the new team leaders really transition the team to the post Iginla era.

This type of record will pass

There are 3 Flames players in the top 10 in league scoring.

There are only 2 players on the roster with a +/- below 0.

Very pleasant to see this happen, but the real quiz begins this week. Anaheim on Wednesday and then San Jose next Saturday. The Sharks have a goal difference of +16 in their 4 games so far. Reality should rear its ugly head by the end of next weekend.
