They were pretty bad at tanking at the end of last year too.
But it will probably turn out for the better.
I think only Mackinnen, Barkov and Jones will be better ham Monahan goog forward.

To be totally honest, the only one I've ever really been "jealous" of is Florida with Barkov, I think he might be a real gem.

Can't fault that.

I will have to take the 1984 New Jersey Devils for $2000 Alex!
They win the final game of the year, thus losing their 1st pick overall giving it to the Penguins to select Mario Lemieux.

Speaking of tanking, the fast start of the Avalanche shows they aren't nearly as terrible as last years record says. That they were able to get MacKinnon as a result is a joke.

I think the current devils are pretty bad when it comes to tanking. They're playing some pretty bad hockey in a year where they have to give up their first rounder... They have to get some recognition

No, management by not firing him, like any other team trying to do their best, shows they were purposely tanking.

Yup, one of the worst coaches in the league in a while. They pretty much rode him out, got a top pick, and then got the man they always wanted (Roy). Win-win-win

The Oilers beat the Flames a few years ago in their last game, which was completely meaningless for both clubs, and because of that they ended up in 6th last. The Blackhawks finished in 5th, won the lottery and drafted Kane. Think how much better the Oilers would have been if they had lost that game; that has to be one of only a few positive Flames losses I have ever seen.

Patrick Kane is a great player but I think he's only allowed to be great because he's on a winning team and he plays a lot with Toews.
Kane is not a 3 zone guy. In fact I think the Oilers already have a guy like Kane in Eberle. Small, highly skilled, clutch scorers. Given what else the Oilers have in Hall, Yakupov, and Eberle, I think Gagner helps the Oilers more than Kane.
But who knows, maybe if they had got Kane, they would have taken Seguin instead of Hall.
At the end of the day, the Blackhawks are a much better run organization and know how to build a winner, and the Oilers are the exact opposite of that. So even if Kane ended up in Edmonton, they still would have screwed his development up.
There's just so much wrong with that Oilers organization. I think it has to do with them living in the past and just constantly talking about how great they use to be. They just don't realize that today's NHL is completely different. To be successful in today's NHL, you need to play defence, you need to compete in all 3 zones. You can't play 80's style Oilers run and gun hockey and be successful today.

We've all seen how well tanking works up north, what year in the rebuild is Edmonton in now? I've lost count
I'd rather take a lower draft pick over tanking for 1st overall because at least it shows the team competing, and the young guys don't get a loser's mentality that seems to plague the Oilers right now

Worst tankers ever? With the Edmonton Oilers in the league? Call me when the Flames get one first pick overall, let alone three straight.

Wouldn't the Oilers' run of three firsts in three years and 10 first-rounders in the last seven make them an especially good team at tanking?
