Remember the 2006-07 Oilers when the press was convinced they they had nine 20+ goal scorers on the roster? And then only two of them actually scored 20+ (Smyth, Sykora). Well, this team has that same sort of feel only without the hype. They look like they could do something on papaer, if stars align, but reality will come crashing down. Fortunately it looksl ike Flames fans have their expectations in check, for the most part.

Mike Cadarette @MCaddd 3m
Roman Horak is on the ice as well at #AHLHeat training camp.
Mike Cadarette @MCaddd 41m
Reto Berra is on the ice this morning at #AHLHeat camp.
Confirms that Ramo and McDonald will be opening day goaltenders.
More then likely confirms Monahan stays for a couple games.

If I'm not mistaken, Horak effectively loses out to Colborne?
I wonder how they assessed Colborne as being effectively better than Horak since they didn't compete in the same camp.

Burke like Colborne. With Horak we kinda know what we've got, if we can get Colborne to play to his potential he might turn into something special

This is the answer I'm hoping it is. Horak is a victim of waiver status over work ethic. We can send him down, no threat. If Colborne doesn't pan out or Monahan goes back, he's easily called up.

Either Cammalleri is going to be good to play on Thursday, or they're waiting to put him on the IR for some reason. They shouldn't have needed to send Horak down if Cammalleri is on LTIR.
I wonder if it's one of those moves like we've seen in the past where a kid who doesn't need waivers is sent down for the opening roster, then immediately recalled once a veteran goes on the IR?

Also a chance someone who has cleared waives isn't demoted right away as they have 1 month or 10 games to send the player down before they have to clear again.

I think Horak has earned his full time spot on the team, so this news doesn't sit well with me. He'll get his shot with injuries and all that but I've been very impressed with his play the last 2 years.

I wonder what are Horak's options (or any other player's in similar situation)? I can think of the following:
- Suck it up and try playing better.
- Ask GM to be traded to another team.
- Leave NHL and go to another league (KHL or Swiss etc.).
Are there any other legal ways out of the AHL for a player that thinks he is being shortchanged by the GM or the unfortunate cap situation and that he could do better with another NHL team?

I agree. I thought this pre-season was Horak's best camp and the best i have seen him play. He was better than Knight, Reinhart ect. and deserved to make the cut.
I do see why they had to send him down to fit Colborne in. That said i did follow Colborne this pre-season and i would say Horak had a better camp.

I am rooting for Horak, but unfortunately he is a tweener. Not quite talented to be top 6, but not big enough to be that shut down guy.
I think he's be best suited on the 3rd line wing with a big checking centre.

this isn't little league...everyone on here seems so concerned with the players feelings
Not everyone who "tries hard" can be on the team for all 82 games

While i kind of agree on your assesment of Horak, the person that seems to have taken his place (Colborne) is big, but not physical or great as a checking center.

With Street and Smith clearing waivers, I have to think that they are just place holders until Cammalleri and Breen are ready.
Horak coming back will depend on what happens with Monahan. If I were a betting man, I would bet that Monahan goes back to junior after a few games.

Big surprise for me is that Street made the team over Horak.

#Flames have put Mike Cammalleri (hand) on IR retroactively - meaning he can come on roster at any time.
