Default Ryan Culkin update

CALGARY, AB -- Calgary Flames prospect Ryan Culkin has been named captain of his junior team, the Quebec Remparts of the QMJHL.

The 19-year-old blueliner is in his fourth season with the Remparts. Culkin put together a career-year in the 2012-13 season, scoring 5 goals and 45 points through 67 games in Quebec.

Culkin recently attended Calgary's rookie camp, the 2013 Young Stars Classic and a portion the Flames main training camp. He suited up for a couple of pre-season games, including the first game in the Scotiabank Saddledome since the flood.

"It was a great experience playing at the Saddledome. I was a little bit intimidated in the beginning but after the first couple of shifts, I got into and I thought I played well," he said of his first NHL pre-season outing.

He he had one assist in his two pre-season games, picking up the secondary helper on Emile Poirier's tally against the Oilers on Sept. 14.

Nice to see him get a C with his team. Should help his confidence and poise to make the next step...

Ryan Culkin looked really good. And he's already off to a fine start (1g, 1a in his first game). We're finding some nice mid-round gems, Eric Roy really impressed me as well.
