Seriously...a bit....WTF is with the upside down visor shinguard?

A friend here who is a Psychologist with children suggested that the whole hat sideways, low rider pants schtick came from Prison Culture (eg. Pants lo ride because they are not allowed to wear belts etc etc). Im not sure if true but they sure look like hoods to me. What exactly is the message being sent?
How do any of the parents here feel about one off their boys deciding that they want to look and dress like the guy 2nd from the right? Is it harmless or is it a frikn waste of money? What would you say to your son if he came home one day dressed like that and demanded he was going to school or out with you in the same attire?

Either way, if i were a parent, i don't think i would read too much into what they were wearing. More than likely, most kids don't know that that "style" is based on prison attire. They probably just saw it and thought it looked good.
