Cammalleri not "scared" of a rebuild
http://tvasports.ca/hockey/lnh/la-re...lleri-20082013

Quote:
Reconstruction underway in Calgary does not scare Michael Cammalleri. On the contrary.
Forward Flames are "optimistic" and "febrile" to approach the next season.
"The general manager Jay Feaster made several transactions to add depth to our team. The next year looks good, "said Cammalleri Tuesday on the sidelines of a training camp organized by the energy drink company biosteel.
"I look forward to meet the newcomers and see how we can create a chemistry between us. I also had the chance to skate with Sean Monahan (the first choice of the Flames draft pick) earlier this summer. "
Now aged 31, Cammalleri act as veteran in this young group. It does not, however, believed that his role has changed so far.
"I do not think my role has changed a lot, he argued. But I want to be an example and embody the culture that the Flames want to implement. I want to be the best player on the ice, for the good of the team.
"As players, our job is to make the best possible and get results team."
Last season, the Flames finished in 13th place in the Western Conference in scoring with 42 points.
Cammalleri, he did not disappoint. He amassed 32 points (13 goals, 19 assists) in 44 games.

Or he could actually mean it and that's why the Flames kept him instead of many other veterans.

Seems about right for Cammallari. You could see he was upset when Iginla was traded but his play didn't show it and I believe he'll give his all. Keeping him around won't upset me in the least. In Edmonton they're relying on their kids for first line minutes, we're not and Cammallari could be a big part of our rebuild.

I still he think he's getting traded this year, should be getting traded this year, and that he suspects he's going to get traded this year, but stuff like this re-affirms my expectations that he will be professional about it and won't create drama or slack off.

It would be cool if he put forth a massive effort in this upcoming contract season and he got flipped for a high pick. Either way, I think he will have a good season as he is pretty much our go-to-guy.

Has Feaster actually admitted that this is in fact a reconstruction?

Were his contract not expiring this year I'd say yes. Cammy has Captain qualities... a top performer who does and says all the right things and presents an intelligent and charismatic face to the media.
But his contract is expiring this year so no, I figure he'll keep an "A" on his jersey until he gets traded. I do wonder when they'll officially give it to Gio... in time to stitch the "C" onto his jersey for Pre-season games?

I am so glad that they kept him (and ditched Tanguay). I think he is a pro and has all sorts of incentive and opportunity for a good year.

He's gone so far as to call it a rebuild I believe.

Sounds like the right situation for a transition guy, so the guy you want to be captain for a long time won't always be compared to Iginla.

I won the Flames Jr. Reporter contest a couple of years ago for my son from Fan 960. He chose to interview Cammalleri. He was fantastic! Very accommodating, and helped my son get through the interview when he was clearly starstruck!
I'm glad he's still here. He still has some good years left and I really would like to see him stay and be captain. I wouldn't complain if Glencross or Giordano were named captain either. I think for the right price, he is definitely worth keeping.
