Draft Hockey Tournaments?
Anyone ever played in any of these? Any advice or feedback on them? If you haven't would you ever play in one?
I am sure a couple of other places run them but I know NCHL has a couple coming up. One in Jasper and one in Vegas. Just curious if they are any fun?

I'd rather go with my own team then be drafted, I think it would be way more fun

Yeah all I have played is team tourneys. I guess this would be a bit easier to keep the levels even. Guess it's something new to try. I mean the one in Vegas... is in Vegas

Ive always wanted to try the draft tournament as well.
The jerseys arent the nicest quality, they arent bad, but I always expected more. Plus they are all huge sizes, which sucks when you are small!

True, but if I'm going to Vegas, I'd rather with friends. As for the skill level, who does the drafting? The league or do they pick Captains?
Edit: Ahh it's a random draw based on competitions...so teams might not end up even. And as a goalie, they require you to be a mid to high level skill to qualify

After the debacle our team had doing a team tourney in Vegas through HNA, I'd never trust a league to do another out of country tourney.
Absolutely ####ed us over, cancelling all the hockey six weeks before the trip, after obviously everyone had booked hotels and flights.

Oh geesh. That sucks Jared. Not on the same scale but we had a tourney in Dallas booked. We got down there and they changed it from an actual tournament to a 3 on 3 half ice tournament. It sucked. I don't know to much about NCHL or HNA but it looks like NCHL does a few tourneys a year. Looks like they did a Vegas one successfully last year.

me and 3 buddies went to the nchl original 6 draft tournament in canmore a few years ago. we were severely disappointed with the quality of play and probably won't ever do it again.

So the level of play was lower than expected?

From what I have been told in the past, they group players based off skill level, and then each team chooses 1 person from each grouping. So teams SHOULD be fairly equal in the ideal world.

Ahh that makes a bit more sense, but it's still a crap shoot I think depending on how honest players are

much lower. some people could barely skate. some guys had just bought new goalie gear to play for the weekend. it was horrible.
mind you, we all went with 1/2 division experience and expectations. what we got was division 10.

I would think , in a ideal world, that most players are NCHL players so they would have an idea of the skill level.
