Default 2013 Toronto Blue Jays thread

Well it looks like we can put the pre season thread to bed and get into the 2013 regular season baby!

The 40 man roster

Who will be the BJs MVP this year?
Any surprises from the Starting Pitchers?
Who will end up the Jays full time closer by the end of the year?
Who will be the first player dealt...and what/who do you think they will deal him for?
Will the Jays make the post season?

Lawrie, Janssen, McGowan all make progress
The Blue Jays' walking wounded continue to make progress from their various injuries, and there's hope the club will be almost completely healthy by Opening Day.

Kyle Drabek, who was forced to leave a game last June against the Washington Nationals at Rogers Centre when he felt a "popping sensation" in his throwing elbow, is set to start throwing off a mound this week.

Left-hander Drew Hutchison is expected to throw off a mound Monday for the first time since undergoing Tommy John surgery last August.

Who will be the BJs MVP this year? Encarnacion
Any surprises from the Starting Pitchers? No surprises. They are going to be tough to handle in a 3 or 4 game series.
Who will end up the Jays full time closer by the end of the year? Janssen
Who will be the first player dealt...and what/who do you think they will deal him for? I don't know but if Adam Lind doesn't put something together soon he is gone after this season when his contract runs out. This being the case he may get a chance to go somewhere else as a depth guy before the deadline.
Will the Jays make the post season? Yes. They will win the east.
How many wins will the Jays get? 95

MVP Reyes, he will set the table, and play great defence. Lets say a 310 average, 360 on base and 455 slugging, with double digits in all extra base hits.

JA Haap wins 14 games as the number 5 starter tying him with Morrow for 2nd on the team.

I say Santos reclaims the closer role, as he gets his K rate back to where it was previous years.

Player dealt is Rasmus, inhuries linger for Lawrie, so Rasmus ends up in Arizona in a package for Martin Prado.

I say they make the Wild Card game, but get beat out by a scrappy A's team who get hot down the stretch again.

Wins, I think they struggle a bit and end up with 89, which will sting when Tampa wins the Division with 91.

Who will be the BJs MVP this year? A clean and determined Melky Cabrera
Any surprises from the Starting Pitchers? Josh Johnson will have a HUGE year...where he goes afterwards is a question only JJ himself can answer.
Who will end up the Jays full time closer by the end of the year? Casey Janssen
Who will be the first player dealt...and what/who do you think they will deal him for? Colby Rasmus for a LEGIT bullpen arm.
Will the Jays make the post season? Not a fan of predictions, but my mind and gut feeling this year says YES, the fall classic makes its return north of the US border for the first time in 20 years

Jose Bautista - 50 + bombs, 115+ RBI. The real catalyst will be Reyes though.

Yup, 95 wins, division crown, 6 game win in World Series over the Reds.

Wow I did not read this post, honestly. We pretty much agree on everything except the starting pitching.

I am home sick and have been able to watch the two hour preview show. They are laying it on real thick. I hope they do well, but so many expect they are easy favorites for the WS.

It's getting hard to even watch this team. When does something give here in regards to changes? I don't even know what change or what good it would do.

Probably soon if they keep looking this bad, but I have no idea what meaningful changes could actually be made. I guess you could (and I personally think they should) do some small stuff like bring Thole up and send Grandpa Thug (Blanco) packing. Speaking of Thole, how is he not on the team right now? Blanco is literally the worst, who cares if he can catch Dickey's knuckler, Thole can catch it just fine himself. Thole is also hitting 0.350+ and playing amazing behind the dish in AAA from what I've read. Frankly JP is crap right now too, I would gladly platoon Thole and JP and see what happens (and best case scenario, Thole wins the everyday job and we can trade JP for some help at 2B).

Other then that though, not much you can do lineup wise and you're not making a big trade this time of year. I guess they could fire Gibbons, it was a ######ed hire in the first place but I don't know how axing an entire staff (as you'd probably get rid of them all if you get rid of Gibbons) 40 days into their first season is going to look, or if ownership would even allow it. I'm also not sure how firing a manager is going to make useless hitters hit or overrated "aces" like Dickey actually worth what we gave up to acquire them. That said, I would still fire Gibbons though, even if everyone else stays for now, Gibbon's is useless and always has been and never deserved the job to begin with. I don't think Manny Acta got a job this spring (I could be wrong) and if not I would happily bring him in to replace Gibbon's, probably wouldn't do much but you never know, maybe he lights a fire under the slumping Dominicans arses, if nothing else.
