Default Under Armour's disastrous attempt at advertising...

"Five of our friends died . . we were sitting around a bar in Katmandu bantering . . . we decided to do the world's most rad, tough expedition."

https://www.youtube.com/watch?featur...&v=EMryDYYUaco

This standard practice of grieving led give some UA exec the idea to blow $5.6 million on hiring 3,780 porters to fix him lines and carry his stuff, hire a bunch of meteorologists to figure out the weather for him, and a helicopters to fly him to base camp so he can... stopping child trafficking???

"I'm doing this with only sherpa support"

"God save the Queen"

"I'm not doing this from an ego perspective"

"Think of the children"

"My faith powers me out of the crevasses"

I see UA already disabled the dislike button today. Soon they'll be taking down that comments section too.

oh yeah, and donations are welcome (might be used if he burns through the $5.6 million)

Awesome. UA really really wants your money.

Not a fan of what the guy was saying.

When the guy says that instead of climbing the mountain in 2 or 3 weeks, his team will do it in 8 hours, does that mean they will be skipping acclimatizing?

I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to climbing, but that does seems dangerous.

K2 and Annapurna 1 will accept his challenge and no doubt do their best to kill him.

Altitude effects take time to set in. If you go in and out fast they should be negated.
Steve House and his Alpine style of climbing are a perfect example of this. He does huge technical routes in an incredibly short period of time.

I don't always think about the children and human trafficking, but when I do, it's certainly accompanied by Dubstep.

Steve House is also a beast. Very few could even come close to doing the things he's done.

Think of the children, that will be orphaned when this poorly concocted plan goes awry killing a few Sherpas. $5.6M would do quite a bit if funneled into the actual cause.

His book is great. He comes off as a pretty arrogant jerk but his accomplishments let him get away with it.

Some of the chances that he takes are pretty scary though.
Using your ice axe as a screw because you are making good time and don't want to slow down and wait for your partner to catch up to you with more screws is crazy.

It has to be a matter of time before these advertising stunts wind up in people dying. I guess they'll sell more shoes, or sports drinks or whatever though.

Why does the Simpson's episode where he uses Powersauce Bars to climb the Murderhorn keep going through my head when I watched the video?

I don't really see the problem. People/companies do this all the time. People bike around the continents do marathons or other extreme sports to gain awareness for causes. The sports don't always directly connect with the cause, but can be seen as something out of the ordinary in order to garner that support from the public.

The guy seems like a ###### bag for sure, and it does seem like a hugely ridiculous advertising stunt, but if raises money for something worthwhile, I think that's ok.

I guess the problem is, its a joke. Its not even really an extreme sport when he has the sherpa's setting him up a top rope and helicopters flying him up to base camp. He probably has a team of porters to help him wash his panties every time he wets them. The only thing innovative here is he managed to sucker someone who doesn't know what the hell he's doing (Under Armour) to foot him the bill... which I guess, good on him. UA really wants to capture some market share from The North Face, maybe after Addidas doing the same thing but they just bought up Five Ten.

Want something innovative? See how Ueli Steck is peak bagging (no sherpas or oxygen tanks or fixed ropes)... not thousands of porters and an entire team of people doing the real work to guarantee "100% success" ... most people who do this stuff, adventure and being on the sharp end is what its about. This fool is just on some ego trip backed by UA giving him $5.6M cause he doesn't know what he's doing. Will probably get a few sherpa's killed along the way.

Update BUMP

Video was taken down (not sure if this is still going to be for human trafficking / think if the children?) but as far as the preparation goes...

And of coarse... Under Armour's skin in the game.

"Supplement based regimen... all natural!"... so for the most part, they're basically placebo-ing the hell out of themselves. Sweet.
