First reaction is that this is pretty similar to the landeskog deal. Might be overpaid for the first year or two, but could be a steal by the end of it. If he keeps developing into a solid second line center for them then this is a good deal for NJ

Great value, but waaaaay too long. 3-4 year deal would have been more appropriate. I say this without knowing his free agent status.

Good deal, IMO. Henrique has been very good. Will be interesting to see if things change without Kovalchuk.

A 4 year deal would have just made Henrique a UFA sooner. He is 23 right now and becomes a UFA at 27.
NJ may be overpaying today but they bought 2 years of his UFA status which means they are more than likely saving money in the long term and locking up a young talented player that they can promote in the face of the nightmare bankrupt season they are likely to have (with no 1st rounder as compensation at the end).
The Devils need every positive team building story that they can get.

This is a really good deal for the Devils in my opinion. 4 mil / year for a young top 6 forward is a very good deal.

As long as he returns to his rookie form it's a good deal for the Devils.
If he struggles like he did last year, then it's a good deal for Henrique.

But he'll be overpaid by 1 - 1.5M for the next 2

They have 11 players signed for 2014-15... Henrique at 24, Zajac at 29 and Schnieder at 28 are the only 3 under contract that will be under 30.
This is like the Flames experiment , make the team all skilled and small and see what happens.
The Devils obviously value experience.

Did the Devils get smaller? They replaced Clarkson with Clowe and Kovy with Jagr. They got worse and are an old team that traded away the 9th pick for a 28 year old and do not have a first in the upcoming draft but they are still a decent team and will surprise people who say they are destined for last in the East

Steal of a deal IMO, I believe Henrique is a keeper and is already valuable to that team as young as he is. He's only gonna get better and better.
