Default Road bike help

Hey guys, I am looking to buy my own road bike. I have a mountain bike, but am leaving that for road biking. Any thoughts, or suggestions?

I was looking on Bowcycle`s website and saw a ton of stuff:
http://www.bowcycle.com/bike-picker/...ycle-type=Road

Thanks in advance.

How is Cannondale as a brand?

Cannondale has been a great brand for years just a hair off from most mainstream for some quirks. The Caad bikes are a legend as far as design goes. All my older cannondale bikes are all hand made, they are now made in a factory by machine like many. Have nothing newer then the 2009.

Devinci makes some fantastic roadbikes as well for the price.

You need to be more specific. Are you going to race? How much are you going to spend? So many factors. Tons of great bikes out there and Bow is a great shop.

Cannondale builds awesome stuff, I would own one if it fit me right, they always feel cramped when I get the right inseam height.

My Devinci Olso SL is my favorite bike ever (except for my 84 Diamond Back Pacer 500 lol). It started as a vanilla hybrid, and I turned it into a full guns, rocketship performance commuter. The big thing that caught my eye, was the frame had full internal cable routing, which was rare for a $900 hybrid. And saw the potential for a project. Swapped out all the gearing components for SRAM Apex gearing and cranks, installed Mavic Aksium Road wheels, with 25c road slicks. And swapped out a bunch of other stuff to perfecly customize and fit it to me. I have had a ton of hardcore cyclists ask me about it, and some even offer to buy it. My sole focus was on a balance of weight and durability (I got it just under 20 lbs without panniers). And of course the perfect fit. I would cry if I lost it.

The inspiration for the build was based on this bike:

This is the ultimate turn key package. Shimano 105 all the way through which is bullet proof, 105 compact crankset (not some cheapie FSA) carbon fork, dead sexy bare aluminum frame, Cannondale quality. It has it all. The only thing I would do is swap the tires down to 23's or 25's. I could have saved around a thousand dollars buy buying it over my Devinci and swapping everything out, and should have.

The big thing is this. Go flat bar. I have a $3500 Carbon Trek Madone collecting dust because I hate being a Lycra loser everywhere I go, and drop bar road bikes just aren't that comfortable or practical for everyday use. For 98% of riders, these new flat bar bikes performance commuters/fitness bikes, are just as fast a drop bar bikes, and in many cases faster, as you are way more comfortable, and need less stops to stretch.

what habernac said. What are you going to use it for? Are you just going to ride around bike paths? Do you plan to put in miles outside of the city? Is your goal a Gran Fondo? Are you planning on racing? etc.

Test ride bikes in your price range. See what you like. Bikes all ride differently. Buy what feels good.

I would like to get into racing.

My budget is between 1000-1500.

I spent my whole life just riding around and I want to get into something a bit more serious. My first ride is the Ride to Conquer cancer next year.

I am headed to Bow this weekend.

You will be able to get a decent entry to mid level bike on sale from last year for that price.
If you're serious about racing you are going to want to increase your budget to almost double that. That budget will be able to suit you in charity rides and other similar rides.

Are you also factoring in the cost of pedals and a saddle or is that above and beyond your $1500?
