If true, coupled with the Murray signing, I hope the diminishing UFA market sparks some trades heading into training camp

There are still teams that need to clear cap space. Hopefully, the Flames can take advantage of this.
If this rumour is true, I'm also glad the Flames did not sign Grabovski. I'd much rather have a player like Backlund get his minutes.

This rumour has been going on for a while. Need to see something more concrete. Granted it does make sense since the Caps need a 2nd line center.

Probably will get him fairly cheap too...decent player for sure but at a discount becomes a great deal compared to production.
Though he was dreadful against the Bruins in that epic 7 game series, he is the type of guy most any team needs to do well.
Caps are going to be a really interesting team to watch this year IMO.

I think letting Ribeiro go for the dollar and term he got was the right move, will be interesting to see if it was worth it on the amount they give Grabovski.

I really think Sept-Nov we will see a decent amount of trade activitiy. Teams are trying to manage the lower cap, other teams (like the Flames) are set on giving the kids a chance. Once it all starts to shake out there will be some deals.

he looked bad last year as he was moved to a 3rd line role. He was solid when he was the 2nd line center the year before. if the top 2 center roles are filled with bozak/kadri, and the 3rd with bolland, it's a decent move for the leafs.
i'm not a fan of grabovski, but watching him the past few years, he's a very hard working player that really does give it his all. I hope he does well.

If its a shorter deal, I wouldn't be surprised if it is near 5 million a year. His value is still there if you don't pull a Bouwmeester and force him into a role that goes against his playing style.

1 year 3 mill is about perfect. Loving these one year deals for these teams, such low risk.

I bet he lights it up this year while Leafs fans lament their overpayments for Bozak and Clarkson.
I imagine buyout guys have a little chip on their shoulder - especially with these short bridge contracts.

Wow.
About half the GMs in the NHL are complete idiots for not signing this guy if he's willing to agree to terms like that.
Including Feaster. Maybe especially Feaster.
I'll stand by that statement too, all season.

I imagine he fielded quite a few offers. Maybe his choice wasn't about money.

I have no doubt in my mind that Feaster probably offered him a contract on par with what he signed for. Hell he might have offered better.
It's been speculated that Grabovski did not want to play out west and i doubt a rebuilding team was what he was looking for.

If the numbers are correct, Grabovski still got a $3M, which in today market is quite a bit of money. I'm pretty sure that Grabovski was looking for the right fit given the one year term. On paper, Grabovski slides right into the spot Ribeiro vacated.
As for the Flames, why does Feaster have to be interested? The team is rebuilding and if Grabovski isn't a long-term solution there's nothing wrong with taking a pass.

Why especially Feaster? You talk like all things are equal. You realize Calgary is likely one of the last places if not the last place an established player would want to go. Washington is always competitive, and an eastern team. Calgary would have likely had to offer $5M + term to get Grabo to consider
