At 1.5 million/year that is a bit higher than I would have thought he would get without a long term contract (I could see 1.5 per year for 3/4 years).
He is a good defenseman but with no offensive potential.

Actually Tanev does have some offensive potential. What he doesn't have is offensive production. He could be one of those defensemen whose offensive production doesn't reflect his skill level.
