Icon38 Flyers behind the scenes draft video

They tried to blur their draftboard, but Flyers fans on HF seem to think the Flyers had the following rankings (based on length of the blurs and letters they can make out):

Quote:
1. MacKinnon
2. Jones
3. Drouin
4. Lindholm
5. Barkov
6. Morin
7. Mueller
8. Zadorov
9. Nurse
10. Ristolainen
11. Monahan
12. Morrissey
13. Gauthier
14. Horvat
15. Lazar
16.
17.
18.
19. Domi
20. Nichushkin
21. Rychel
22. De La Rose
23. McCaron
24. Hartman
25. Hagg

Yeah, I was looking at the board before it was all scribbled in red.

Just goes to show you how different team lists are compared to McKenzie's consensus.

I read what people guessed to be the draft board...

Then I tried to do it and I couldn't see a single letter.

Seems like they were drafting with an emphasis on position based on that video. They moved five dmen ahead of Monahan.

Just goes to show that BPA has an asterisk beside it, and isn't the end all, be all that people make it out to be.

I wonder how much their choices are varied by their subconscious realization that they aren't going to get Monahan at the 11 spot, so they drop him down. In that way they can feel satisfied with Morin at 11 and brag that they had him ranked much higher. Feaster plays something of the same game and it's amazing how much the teams differ in their rankings but the draft comes out more or less the way it's expected. Of course Nashville can legitimately claim they were surprised to get Jones but most teams are probably deluding themselves and their fans.

love Holmgrens reaction at the end when he sees that they moved Monahan behind all those defensemen. Priceless.

IMO organizational need was creeping into their rankings. Doesn't sound like Holmgren was too big a fan of them moving the dmen in front of Monahan.

When you look at prospects like Monahan, Gauthier and Horvat all being relatively low, it's probably more to do with the Flyers valuing other prospects, primarily defensemen more unless they were too good to ignore like Barkov.

Interesting that Pronger was in the room. Might as well get some value for the money they're paying him.

"Monahan's like Couturier." -- 6:20

You can tell Holmgren wasn't happy with having Monahan so low.

That's why when Homlgren is asked what he thinks of Monahan being moved down behind Morin and the other defencemen, he says "I think you guys are fading under the pressure, that's what I think". It's not a true evaluation, it's what the scouts think they can get, whether they realize it or not.

Further, when you consider Holmgren's quote.

Quote:

I doubt this was the final list.

Holmgren looks pissed that Monahan was so low. Those trade rumors with the Flyers finally make sense.

I thought the Flyers reached for Morin at 11... but it's just wild that they had him at 6.

Really interesting video.

They make that guy look like a university student trying to run a meeting. Holy that was bad - though I am sure not in reality.

So they didn't have Monahan until their 11th pick?! Wow, Calgary went way off-board with that one!

But in all seriousness, I love seeing these behind the scenes videos. Very informative for us lowly fans.
