GAME 8 : STAMPEDERS at Argonauts
Ladies and gentlemen, here are the Calgary Stampeders starting lineup... from QB Drew Tate, Offensive Line Dmitri Tsoumpas, Edwin Harrison... RB Jon Cornish, SB Nik Lewis, Chris Bauman, WR Maurice Price, Joe West and Johnnie Forzani.... oooops wait, those guys will be missing the game because they are injured. That list is only on offense. On Defense, we are DT Micah Johnson, DT Corey Mace, LB Malik Jackson, DB Quincy Butler and Brandon Smith. Wow, a lot of injuries so far but no worries players that filled in have been playing well anyways.
Game Time : Friday, August 23rd at 5:30pm MDT at Rogers Centre. It will be televised by TSN in Canada and ESPN3 in the US.
OFFENSE :
QB Kevin Glenn will be starting again. So far, he's been good filling in for Drew Tate. Last game against BC, you can't entirely blame him for their inability to score. Only fault that I think he did was time clock management late in the game. That was inexcuseable for a veteran QB. They seems so lost. Glenn's numbers doesn't really showed how well or bad he played since there was about 4+ catchable passes that receivers dropped. Mo Price was the biggest culprit but the game is over with. Glenn ended up with 22 completions on 38 attempts for 199 yards and 1 TD. Even the best Stampeder receiver McDaniel dropped a pass. McDaniel ended up with 7 catches for 75 yards and 1 TD. Jabari Arthur who will be playing on Nik Lewis' position had a decent game and went 4 for 35 yards.
RB Jon Cornish is questionable tomorrow. There are over 85% chances that he will not dress up for the game due to thigh contusion. His backup RB Non-import Matt Walter will be the starting RB if Cornish cannot play and rookie RB Jonathan Williams will be backing him up.
Stampeder organization are saying RB Cornish(game time decision), Nik Lewis(might be out for the season), the dynamic duo Mo Price and Joe West will not play. Dmitri Tsoumpas is still questionable.
DEFENSE :
Defense played well against the BC Lions last week. They are the reason why the game was not one-sided game in favour of BC Lions. Led by DE Charleston Hughes with 1 INT, 1 tackles, 2 knockdown passes and 1 almost INT, they will have to duplicate or better their defensive effort from last week against Ricky Ray and company. LB Deron Mayo is fitting in nicely after replacing Malik Jackson on the roster.
Question : Whatever happen to DE Shawn Lemon?? I thought he complemented on the opposite side of Charleston Hughes' position. Lemon is fast and always hungry for QB sack.
SPECIAL TEAM :
I think both BC and Stamps' offense struggled at times last week while both defense played well. I thought the huge difference in favour of BC Lion was the special team return. Returner Tim Brown managed to go all the way for a TD while Stamps Larry Taylor's good return was a little over 30 yards. Not entirely his fault because for some reason once he started running, BC coverage teams closed the lane right away. Calgary's special team blocking pretty much was non-existence.
Kicker Rene Paredes was the bright spot increasing his consecutive field goal record number to 38. I also loved that fake punt by Rob Maver. He threw the ball to Rob Cote right on the spot.
************************************************** **
It was never a dull moment playing the Argonauts the last two seasons. For some reason Stamps will start crappy then come back in the game only to lose because Stamps players lose their cool and took some dumb penalties. Including the Grey Cup, Stamps lost all 3 games against the Argos... the lost was aided by some undiscipline penalties by the Stamps. I hope that won't be the case on this game.
GO STAMPS GO!!!!

Cornish is officially out:
http://www.stampeders.com/article/wa...in-for-cornish
Quote:
Cornish, suffering from a thigh injury, is the latest big-name performer to be sidelined.
In his place, Calgary native Matt Walter and rookie import Jonathan Williams will handle the ball-carrying workload for the Red and White.
“Matt’s been in the system,” said Hufnagel of the second-year pro out of the University of Calgary. “When he’s carried the ball, he’s done a good job. It’s going to be a big game for Jonathan Williams. With both him and Matt, we’ll get the job done.”
“Obviously,” said Walter, who starred at Bishop O’Byrne high school, “Cornish being down is not the best thing for us as a team. But I prepare every week like I’m going to start just for that one scenario . . . and I’m ready to help my team out. It’s an exciting opportunity.”
Walter thinks there’s no reason to be nervous on the eve of his big chance.
“Honestly the preparation takes a lot of that away,” he said. “Knowing I’m prepared and, luckily, I have really good coaches who got me ready for this week, so it’s just a matter of executing and going out there and doing what we do best.”

For some reason I think the Argos are going to come out flat and the injuries won't stop the Stamps from winning a close one.

Just saw on TSN that Ricky Ray has a completion percentage of 87.7% in his last three games. That's unbelievable.

************************************************** ************
No word on Stampeders DE Shawn Lemon if he is going to be in the lineup or not. The former Eskimo sack leader last season haven't been in the lineup for 2 games now. Also, Calgary K Rene Paredes extended his record-breaking streak to 38 straight regular season field goal success. Calgary DT Justin Phillips leads the CFL with 12 special team tackles.
In the last two games, Toronto QB Ricky Ray is a ridiculous 45 for 53 for 565 yards, 6 TDs and no INT. Toronto played against two of the worst defense in the CFL the last two games (Montreal and Edmonton).
********************************************
I think in order for the Stampeders to beat Toronto tonight is to put more pressures on QB Ricky Ray. Also, they have to stay away from making stupid penalties. The last few regular season games vs Toronto, Stamps were one of the most discipline team prior to Argonauts game. All those undiscipline penalties came the day they played them. I remembered a few times they stopped the Argos from scoring. Because of some dumb penalties, Toronto got a second chance and took advantages of it by scoring TDs.

Terrible job incorporating Parker into the offense. He's ready to explode and we start sinopli instead.

We were out and watched the game with a few of the walking wounded who didnt make the trip along with the outrider ladies.
Amazing effort from Huf's crew....truly was as gritty and unexpected as any team i have seen the Stamps put on the field.
Down 7 early after a fumble...things looked bleak. Then the guys just simply "balled up" and put a good old fashioned ass kicking on the Argos. Losing Ray really hurt TO and seemed to sap them of any momentum they had.
Awesome stuff by the red and white on this night, and a great opportunity to make a move on the riders with the eskimos as fodder the next couple weeks.

I've been watching every week but my presumed ADD makes me a slave to my PVR, and my desire to always be behind so I can FF through commercials/breaks. Because of it, I always avoid game threads for obvious, spoilery reasons.
I gotta admit I wasn't very hopeful, between all the injuries at key spots + their recent record in Toronto. Very impressive win. Williams looked surprisingly solid in place of Cornish, love that grill.

Seeing Dickenson have an absolute spaz attack and watching Hufnagel chuckling about it was probably the highlight of the game for me (and the game was definitely a good one!).
