For those history geeks out there, there's a cool new mini-series on ABC right now airing Tuesday nights at 11pm (in Calgary at least).

Totally fictional (as in non-documentary) account of Rome right after Julius Caesar is assasinated. The show revolves around a young Octavius (becomes Augustus) as he is appointed Caesar's heir, and Caesar's friends/enemies try to hunt Octavius down to claim the title of Caesar themselves.

Really good acting, decent production, and totally war/politics.

I have no idea how this show made it on to tv, given it's fairly narrow demographic audience (and crappy timeslot), but still, 2 thumbs up from me, take a look if you get a chance!

I like the show too. It started out good, but the last episode seemed a little weaker. I'm a sucker for historical novels and am also surprised its made it on prime time, probably a summer fill in.

Have you read the Roman novel series by Colleen McCullough? Pure gold...

Or the Emperor series by Conn Iggulden? Not as good as McCollough but still entertaining.

Too bad, it's pretty cool so far.

Now I'm just waiting for some huge Roman battle-scene which would be super-cool.

The show is awesome but a little miss leading for those that are not familiar with history like my wife who thought it was cool they knew how all this stuff happened.

She actually lost all interest when I told her it was fiction.

Well, fiction based on reality. All the characters are real, and the sequence of events is basically the same way it went down. Did she think it was a documentary or something? They do know how most of this stuff happened, more or less, in a macro-sense.

Ya she basically thought it was an actual account of what happened. When I explained that there were a lot of thing added she lost interest. It could also be that she would have lost interest anyways as she is not a huge fan of history, but she did stop watching as soon as she found out that it wasn't as authentic as she thought.

Lol, well, I guess I challenge your wife to find a historical show like that that is not a documentary.

It's probably as close to a history lesson about Rome as most people will get.
