Leafs to buyout John-Michael Liles
Howard Berger @Berger_BYTES 30m Looks like #Leafs will use a non-compliance buy-out on John-Michael Liles, though I'm not convinced team can ever have too many defensemen.

So... who will be the first to say they want the Flames to sign this guy?

Lots of Leafs fans criticizing Nonis for not using a compliance buyout on Liles and a normal buyout on Komisarek, would have saved more cap space in the long run.

They should get used to it, isnt Nonis the Leafs GM for the next 8 years?

Nonis is a bum. Footstep follower with a panic look. Makes feasted look like a $2000.00 ounce of gold.

Idiotic move. Really can't believe they used up a compliance buy-out on Komisarek. One year left on his contract!
I guess they aren't willing to give up enough to get rid of Liles. He is definitely NHL caliber though.

He's going to get paid like he's a GM for many years, but I'm betting he gets canned when the Leafs miss the playoffs this year.

As well they should. Burke wasn't a good GM but they appear to have replaced bad with worse.
I mean geez...
Uses a compliance buyout and an ordinary buyout such that they retain more of a penalty, one buyout of a center being made so that the Leafs could afford to resign another center of inferior skill, Clarkson for too much money and too long a term, Gauthier at the draft (Who was the one probable first round pick that I wanted the Flames to stay as far far away from as possible). I'm on the fence about the Bolland deal.
That is a whole whack of bad moves in a relatively short period.

Burke is a pretty great GM imo, and most definitely doesn't deserve to be called "not good".

I don't think Nonis is anything special, but there is no way he makes Feaster look better. The only GM in the league right now making Feaster look good is Gillis.

This is gonna sound weird, but John Michael Liles has always irritated me because of his three names. Hearing about him is like a canker sore that just won't go away.

burke is the guy that wasted contracts on komisarek and liles etc that don't fit the mold of the team he was trying to develop...
nonis is the bad guy for having to clean up the mess (twice now)

I hope I'm proven wrong but trading for Russell, the smallest defenceman in the NHL when we already have probably the smallest defence in the NHL, doesn't rock my boat. Feaster makes a couple of good moves and than does something boneheaded.

Really do not get the Feaster hate. The owners did not allow him to rebuild until now. Despite that, he's managed to clear out a team of 30+ guys with NMC/NTCs. While doing so, he's managed to turn Calgary's prospect pool from arguably dead last to top 10.
He's overhauled the Flames scouting and development system, and it's paying dividends at every level.

Lets not forget that it was his team's failure that backed him into a corner where he had to trade our two best players and force the retirement of our all star goalie.
If he doesn't make anymore blatant screw ups, we might as well keep him and his coach around for a couple of years, until the team is ready to move up into contention again.

Trading for an extra (though probably unnecessary) depth defenseman is boneheaded?
