That's a bit of a bummer. The rumor he was coming here got me excited.

Only 8 Russians picked in the entire 2013 NHL entry draft. Gee I wonder why?

I hate to say it but after seeing this the first thing I thought was "I am so glad we got Monahan instead of Nichushkin". The idea of investing a top 10 first round draft pick into one of these Russian kids only to have them eject and sign in the KHL when things are not going exactly according to plan... It makes me shudder.

A lot of mediocre and underwhelming players go the KHL, Russian and otherwise. No surprise here.

Burmistrov and Niedereiter are similar in a lot of ways. Players that were rushed into the NHL before they were ready, had poor experiences on that team, and have a team that can partially be blamed for their delayed development.

Niedereiter and Burmistrov both asked to be moved. In Niedereiter's case he was a justified young player who was done a disservice by his team, while Burmistrov was a whiny Russian malcontent.

Niedereiter got his wish and was traded. Burmistrov wasn't moved, was a FA and so he decided to sign back in his home country of Russia.

Now Burmistrov is the typical "Russian", while Niedereiter gets to continue to play in the NHL.

The Jets are very much to blame in my opinion. Also both players are an example of why we shouldn't rush Monahan. Let him develop and be a star in the OHL, opposed to a 3rd/4th liner in the NHL.

And this is why the Russian Factor plays a apart in drafting. Why waste 3 years developing a kid just to have him leave

We should offer them something really cheap for his rights... like a 2016 7th round pick or a failed prospect or something else along those lines. Let them save some face right now by getting something while we take the longview.

To be fair they're definition of "developing" was "rush player to the NHL before he's ready, give him terrible linemates, minimal ice-time, and a non-scoring role/usage, then blame player for not producing like his draft pedigree says that he should".

There is some blame to be placed here... unfortunately for Winnipeg that blame is with the Thrashers/Jets not with Burmistrov.

Well isn't part of the problem in that many of the Russian players don't want to play in the AHL? Hard to blame teams for rushing them when most of them will go back home if they aren't given an NHL roster spot. Are you going to blame the Stars for rushing Nichushkin when he has stated he won't play in the AHL?

Team screwed him around and unlike other players he has options so he left. Everyone will growl and blame the player but he's not under contract to Winnipeg so if he wants to leave, he should.

This isn't a Russian factor issue, it's an asset management issue by the Jets. I do not blame the kid one bit for going home. Especially if the jets were too stubborn to move him or were asking far too much in trade.
