The Sabres were locked into Ristolainen as their first pick. One of their guys freaked out when Nashville's Finnish scout walked up with their entourage to pick at #4 overall because he thought the Preds were going to pick Ristolainen and was very relieved that Jones was picked instead.
Stars tried to move up from #10 to #8 but the Sabres said no because they were afraid the Stars would take Risolainen.
Sharks offered #20, #49 and something else to move up to #16.. Sabres said no.
Sounds like they were surprised Zadarov fell into their lap at #16. Originally targeting a forward for that pick.

What they were worried about most likely is that if Ristolainen somehow went before Jones, both Ristolainen and Jones would be off the table by their pick

"Oh thank god"- in response to Nashville taking Seth Jones... That's very, very interesting
I doubt that they necessarily thought that Jones was the worst player, moreso that there was no chance if he was not taken at #4 that he would fall to #8 unlike Ristolainen who they had a realistic chance of getting.
I love that video I wish the flames did something like that this year
If you replaced the Sabres with the Flames in that video you would have an entire thread of people bashing Feaster going off their list and just winging it.

This entire series has been fantastic (they did it during the lockout and all through the season too). Really gives a good insight into the operation of an NHL team, even if you aren't a Sabres fan.
A little surprised how much they coveted Risto... Pretty sure he'll be given every chance to make the big team this year.
Crazy part is they've got the owner at the table and they're asking him if they should go tougher to play against. And people complain about ownership involvement in the Flames, the Sabres take it to another level.
Interesting video. Solid draft for the Sabres IMO. In Myers, Zadorov and Ristolainen they've got 3 huge guys with top two pairing potential. Flames could use a little of the size they've got back there.

IIRC, the owner for the Sabres is a massive hockey fan which is pretty much why he bought the team in the first place. Sure it's a bit much for him to be so close to the hockey operations but still looks like he lets the hockey people do their job.
Sweet, thanks for bringing the series in general to my attention. I always enjoy watching these behind the scenes type shows, as long as it's not for a team that I don't like (Oilers, Canucks, or Leafs). I'll have to check it out tonight when I get home.

As much as I hate the Oilers I thought the "Oil Change" series was a cool look inside of things. Maybe I liked it because it showed a lot of OKC in it but nonetheless still a cool look at a look behind the scenes.

apparently the flames have pitched a similar type show. I don't know what they need to do to get it to air but I hope it gets picked up.
Too bad they didn't have a 2012 version. That way we could have seen how they totally effed over Feaster with the Regehr for crap trade.
What a strange dude you are. Man you like to live in the past. Especially the shiddy parts. Think how how much fun it is looking forward...you should give it a try.
