[GDT] Jays Series Thread vs. Houston Astros
Here's your series thread.
Series Implications: None
Toronto plays a team that is somehow worse than them. Will be interesting to see how Toronto plays against a team they should sweep.
Buehrle on the mound vs. Ottawa native Eric Bedard.

A team that Toronto is better than? Yes. A team they should sweep? No, I don't think there's any team the Jays "should sweep"...even the Astros.

Why is Encarnacion going for a triple there? Good to see the RBI but bad base running from EE who is slow and has a bad hamstring.

Jays should take 2 of 3 from the Astros. Should.

Ah well. They'll split it, then. It's the Jays.

Some pretty hardcore fans in here...
It was nice to see Buehrle give his best performance of the year when the team badly needed it. Yes, it was against the lowly Astros, but he still went out and gave them a complete game shutout. Good for the bullpen, good for the offense to have a relatively quiet night, good for the manager who gets a reprieve until they go on another losing streak, good for the morale of the whole group.
I give them until tomorrow before it all goes horribly wrong again.

Here is the matchup for tonight (bluejays.com)
Quote:
Houston Astros vs. Toronto Blue Jays
Friday, July 26, 7:07 PM EDT, Rogers Centre
Jordan Lyles, RHP
Stats4-4, 4.78 ERA
Career stats After pitching so well in June -- 2-2 with a 3.53 ERA in six starts -- Lyles has struggled in July. In three starts this month, he's 0-1 with a 7.94 ERA, allowing 20 hits and 15 earned runs in 17 innings.
R.A. Dickey, RHP
Stats8-11, 4.75 ERA
Career stats Dickey was strong through five innings before unraveling in a three-run sixth vs. the Rays. Like much of the year, it was the long ball that was his undoing as the knuckleballer allowed three home runs, tying him for the league lead with 23 allowed.

Astros are terrible. EE only the second Blue Jay to hit 2hr in same inning as he hits a Grand Slam...Jays put up 8 in the inning so far.

3 Blue Jay home runs, including back to back ones (and not far from 3 straight) 3 walks in the inning including walking in 2 runs, 2 Astros errors, 1 hit batter.

Nice time for an offensive explosion. Dickey is terrible. Given up the most homers in the league now. If it wasn't for the offense we'd all be talking about how bad Dickey is. So much for being the "ace" of the staff. If I had to rank the Blue Jays current starting rotation it would be:
Rogers
Buehrle
Redmond
Dickey
Johnson
Seriously...wtf is with the starting pitching?

I have a feeling the Jays are going to be stuck with Johnson next season which might not be such a bad thing as he will no doubt be cheap.
