Demolished? Noooooo!
The "twin stacks" have been a local landmark for pilots flying visually into/out of YYC for a long time.
I guess with the almost complete reduction of VFR (visual flying rules) flying out of the international they weren't playing much of a role anymore.
Fond memories of coming in from the east and being told "direct the twin stacks" or "orbit over the twin stacks".

The power plant and the killing plant in the area will remain, however.
I didn't even know there was a gas plant there, I thought it was the power station. However, the sour gas wells in the area are being removed, and the ROWs leading to them have been abandoned, with Houses now being built on those ROWs.

I never understood the new community being developed just south of Stoney, where every house would see that out their back window. Now it makes sense though if it's being demolished.

I read about it in Metro the other week and had a similar reaction. Not only are they a landmark for me when flying in YYC, one of my good friends lives in Skyview and it's one of the few unique/distinguishing features in the area. It was a welcomed break from forced community landmarks (e.g. fake remains of a monastery).

I'm building there and I'll be honest: when I read it was being demolished I was kind of disappointed. For some reason I like them lol. It reminds me a little bit of the scene from the departed where Matt Damons character looks out and see's the church and he's all impressed.
Sometimes I'm convinced I'm white trash when I have these types of thoughts.

I agree, they should at least keep up the stacks.

What? Never heard of this - is it like the fake destroyed castle in Sherwood?

Does anyone know how we could go about saving them? I'd tweet Nenhsi but don't want to bother him with something kind of small.

I meant it was a minor task and not a priority. Unless you are being sarcastic and I just lost at the internet.

Yeah, but a lot of people seem to like them. Plus, it's not like he doesn't do other minor things on Twitter.

It's also not within the city, so outside of anything city council could do.

Hmm, your twitter handle wouldn't be the same as your CP nick, would it?

It's truly 2013 when a mayor takes the time to reply to trolls on Twitter.
