Just came home with a bag of groceries, celebrating the apparent cessation of the great strawberry shortage of 2016, and a huge Skunk was in between my house and my neighbour's. Went back outside wrapped in a pillow and garbage can lid suit of armour to discover a hole had been dug leading underneath my front step. Ah fudge, there's a 99% chance that pepe is giving birth to a litter under there as I speak.
Super.
Anyone have any tips on getting rid of a Skunk that doesn't end in my person and immediate area reeking like concentrated ass for a week?

back when i was in high school and still living at home, we had a family of skunks move in under our front steps
my dad waited until late at night (skunks would be asleep) and dug out a larger area at the access hole. he put a pipe in the hole and then put in chicken wire and 'back-filled' the hole (for lack of a better term). then attached the pipe to the exhaust pipe on his vehicle. started up the van and waited. you could hear the skunks trying to get out, but the chicken wire kept them under the stairs. eventually it got quiet and my dad got them out and took them up a logging road
i don't think a skunk will spray in it's 'house' (or whatever it's called... den maybe?)... but don't quote me on that

Happened to my parents a few years back. Apparently they also emit the smell as they are mating (or so I read lol). We got rid of it by hucking a bunch of moth balls into the hole. But I don't think you can buy moth balls anymore.
Just popped in to say that if your house does end up smelling skunky, try simmering a large pot of vinegar and water on the stove. I used 1 part vinegar to 10 parts water. Can't say if it actually absorbs skunk odour, or if it just deadens your nose to smells, but it saved my sanity last week when I had a skunk around.
There is a company in Calgary called Calgary Wildlife Control (calgarywildlifecontrol.ca) who removes skunks and fits a one way door so they can get out but not return to their den. I highly recommend them. We have a skunk living under our front steps (for a couple of years). She has never smelt - never - and has given us endless hours of amusement watching her on the wildlife camera we installed.

I had this happen in the fall and called Peregrine Pest control. They ended up trapping three (!) skunks who had taken up residence under the front porch. Once we were sure they were gone I drove in about 18" lengths of rebar to keep them from coming back and will cover that up this spring. It wasn't as bad as I expected.

It was $140/skunk basically and I think the same to set the traps the first time. So basically they come out, set the traps and show you how to work them. You call when there is a skunk in the trap and they come and take it away. It was really easy. I think it took 3-4 days for the first one and then it was one after another. We left the traps for a bit after just to make sure we had them all.
It was weird because I had never seen a skunk at all, and my neighbour actually saw it go under one night. Then they caught three.
We had one under our concrete porch for years. Never gave us any trouble and it was a big one. Occasionally it would be out and about when I'd get home late.

Try throwing in a bunch of mothballs. I've had some success with that solution.

Do not use mothballs. There's a reason the animals leave, and it's because they're poisoning everything that breathes the fumes. Including you, your kids, your pets, your neighbours.
