I think this is too much and too long for Brown.

I think Brown is good, but not 8 year, 5.75M per year good. He's more of a role guy who can score clutch goals, kind of like a dirtier Chris Drury.

Yikes, too long of a contract for a 28 year old who is not elite.
Like Brown but hes not really an offensive star, and isn't an elite 2-way player like Bergeron. Plus not a big guy and his style of play will catch up to him sooner than others.
Seems like a contract signed for "intangibles".

Well, those "intangibles" are actually a strong 200FT game. The deal will take him to 36 is, yeah...too long. But a comparable for him is Doan, and he's always been around that 5M mark, so to me this contract makes sense with the only stupid aspect being that it's 8 years and not 5 or 6, but that's just the way she goes.

As long as Brown doesn't deteriorate the way Ryan Smyth did (lots of hard miles with that style of play), he should be worth every penny. 8 years is probably too long...for ANY player not named Crosby. If I were a GM today, I wouldn't give out more than a 6 year deal. Heck, even look at the way Iginla dropped by the end of his 7 year deal. Who would have seen that?

50-60 point guy who does all the little things right, I would say 5 mill is a good contract for him.. so a bit above that. Term doesn't bother me, he is a great heart and soul player and even if he can't bang and crash the same at age 34 or 35 he will still bring a solid veteran presence for the younger guys.
Supposed to be a gem off ice as well.

Little on the long side, but Stanley Cup winning captains don't usually leave teams. Good retirement contract for Brown, I can't imagine he'll have a ton left to give by the time he's 36.

Kings will regret giving Brown 8 years at that kind of money. Might take 5 or 6 years but I can almost guarantee they regret this contract at some point.

Too long but certainly not too much for a captain who constantly wears his heart on his sleeve every night. It's not only on his sleeve, he basically plasters his big heart all over opponents every night.

Eh. Maybe the last two years they'll wish he made a little less. Before that, I doubt it. He's been pretty consistent and pretty valuable to that team.

Money is good but for that term the contract is meh. Not the best value but for a 8 year contract it won't kill them like that rask deal will kill boston

This contract limit thing from the CBA is a joke. Prior to this, teams would sign players to a term that worked for both sides. Now? All guys re-signing with their current clubs want 8 years, because that's the max.

The salary cap will be a lot higher in 5 years I imagine. Good signing. Not really a "hometown" discount or anything.

Too long and too higher for a player like him.
Hes a #2 winger who in a few years a "top 9 winger". Hes basically a younger version of Morrow.

The bar has been set. I it will be hard to get any players of his stature to deals under 8 years.
This is the new normal.

So you are saying in the old cba, Brown would have signed a 12 year $36mil contract?

Boy the Kings have some long deals on their books. End of this decade will be interesting when a lot of these contracts are in the back end.
