Seemed like a little bit of a tongue in cheek statement that everybody is taking too seriously.

Even if he does have a route planned good for him, last time I checked the previous group he managed just won a Stanley Cup.

I wonder if they will use cars or hovercrafts for their floats?

Well isn't that every teams goal? I don't get why people are making fun if him... I don't think it'll happen but I think he should be optimistic. It would sound bad if they spent all that money and he said "we think we'll get a great draft pick!"

I hate the leafs more than most of you but I think they'll make the playoffs.

Not a fan of their offseason signings. If you put Clarkson and Glencross's career stats next to each other you would see Glencross has been actually a more productive player. How good would Flames fans feel if Glencross had a $5.2 million cap hit until 2020? I like Glencross but if Feaster handed out that contract to Glencross we would be roasting him for it yet the Leafs are getting praised? I don't see this one ending well

Rob Vollman from Hockey Abstract thinks it's a big risk as well;

Quote:
David Clarkson, RW, Toronto Maple Leafs
7 Years, $5.25M/year | GVS minus-64.9

Much has been made of Clarkson's 30-goal 2011-12 campaign, but his six-season career high is otherwise just 17 goals and 32 points. A minimum even-strength scoring rate of 1.7 points per 60 minutes is typically required for a top-six forward, a level Clarkson has only occasionally grazed throughout his career.

Don't expect Clarkson to make up for his lack of offense with strong defensive play. Though a gritty, hard-hitting player, he has finished higher than 11th among New Jersey forwards in average quality of competition only once in the past five seasons (eighth in 2011-12), and has a combined 202 seconds of penalty-killing time over the past four. Add in Tyler Bozak's risky five-year, $4.2M/year deal (which just missed this list) and Toronto is taking some awfully big gambles in its bid to build off its recent postseason appearance.

The maple leafs are as big a bubble as the housing market in the US in the late 00's. Then they went and added Clarkson at a ridiculous contract. Going to be a very rough ride for Leaf fans imo.

The only redeeming light they have is the emergence of Kadri despite what everybody has knocked on this kid for, as well as Bernier. Overall though, really don't see a playoff team.

God Toronto is annoying, from the fans right up to the CEO. Never seen so much delusional behaviour/ thinking. It's one thing to be optimistic and it's another thing to set unrealistic outcomes for yourself and stand by them like you are proud of it. Only in Toronto would you see something like this.

other than media outlets that partially own the Leafs who is praising the Clarkson signing? it's a brutal contract and IMO the 2nd worst handed out on July 5th, second only to that abortion of a contract Ryan Clowe got.

Is TSN partially owned by the Leafs?
