Default Looking for a reasonable family portrait studio

Am in town (CGY) visiting my folks with our new born baby. Was hoping to do a family portrait with the little one while i'm here.

Can anyone suggest a reasonably priced studio that you would recommend?

I'm hoping to find something relatively economical, and my quick googling has led me to believe that i'm looking at something like $500 bucks, which seemed over the top to me (but what do i know, i suppose).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you want an indoor studio shot with a background sears is pretty good. I also wouldnt pay for a good photographer for a studio picture as it might be the only situation in photography where the gear (lighting) mattrs as much as the photographer.

Superstore or Walmart's that have photo studios...just call ahead and make sure they're open/not booked. Depending on how many pictures and poses, should be able to get the basics as in a pose or two and a bunch of copies/sizes of pics, for $50-60.

We've always had positive experiences with Sears.

What is your idea of reasonable?

Do you want a themed photo-shoot?

What kind of time do you want to put into the photo-shoot? Meaning, also, what kind of time do you want the photographer to put into it?

How many pictures do you want in the end?

Sears is such a rip-off. The portrait fee is reasonable, but actually buying the prints themselves, the pricing is insane. Plus the photo quality is medicore at best.

If you want "reasonable" (i.e. cheap?) I'd go to Superstore. Otherwise you could do a little googling and find a reasonably priced photographer in Calgary and could probably negotiate the fee for the photo shoot plus a CD of some/all the images so everyone in your family can choose which images they want to print, what size, etc.

Sears shut down their portrait studios a couple months ago if I recall correctly.

I know you said studio- but this girl Marie Armstrong does really beautiful outdoor family shots. She has tons of experience and loads of referrals. I've done shoots with her and have been really happy.
