What is Going On?
What is going on?
Many GM’s might be scratching their heads wondering what the heck is going on in Columbus and the answer is simple, we are not sure. There have been many names come and go since the final game of the season and many trades have been made. Names like Carter, M. Richards, Lucic and Oshie are gone and have been replaced by new acquisitions like D. Sedin, Ilya Kovalchuk, Elias and Franzen. With the epic failure of Team America F^ck Yah, GM Penney found himself out of a playoff spot for the first time in his career when at the helm for a full season. Although the Jackets made a good run at the end of the season, they fell short on that 8th and final playoff spot to the Wild.
Before I try and explain exactly what is going on here, let me bring you back to a time in the CPHL when there were actually two females in the league and Cheese still had hair. A stroll down memory lane will help spark the memories of those old folk who are still around to remember, and will cause newer GM’s to go HOLY CRAP.
The year was 2006-07 and Cheese was the GM of the Atlanta Thrashers. It was a year that he got ‘bored’ and decided to do a rebuild and in doing so, had 18 draft picks in the 1st round of the draft. If Cheese had stayed in the CPHL and still had that team today, he would have guys like Toews, Nick Backstrom, Kessel, J Staal and Erik Johnson, Jonathan Bernier, Chris Stewart and Kyle Okposo. Not a bad haul for the old man even though he missed the mark on Giroux. It just goes to show that the draft is a wild card, it doesn’t matter where you pick you have to get a little lucky as well.
So why am I telling you this? Well the first reason is that it is pretty damn cool and it was fun watching the Thrashers do that. Also, I am willing to bet that most GM’s in this league do not know the long history of Grand Father Cheese or his lasting legacy he has imprinted on the teams he managed.
So, out of appreciation for an old man and to help celebrate his 92nd birthday this year, the Columbus Blue Jackets have decided to do their best and try and compete this year BUT have been stock piling 2014 1st round picks in the process.
The Jackets currently own 14 1st round picks for the 2014 draft and are looking to acquire more.
We think that we can still compete with our current lineup for a playoff spot but also are interested in stock piling prospects starting at the 2014 draft. However knowing the history of the Jackets GM, the 1sts will all be flipped the day before the draft.
So if you have 1sts available I am interested and nothing is untouchable on my roster.
In the spirit of the CPHL I say, send me a PM or find me on G-Talk and LETS MAKE A DEAL!

Think I'll keep mine. It'll be a quick draft if there's only two of us,

The Jackets continue to make deals in this incredibly quiet offseason and acquire Daniel Alfredsson and Derick Morris in exchange for Ryane Clowe and Maxime Talbot.
We like the upgrade in Alfie vs Clowe and were looking for another dman. Morris on a sweet contract will be a nice fit and a welcome addition. The Jackets continue to build a decent team for 2013-14 while not having to trade away any 2014 1sts.
There are pros and cons to the deal with the Sens but at the end of the day we get the better ratings.

Thoughts and Prayers...

I wonder if it's retirement or "I'm retiring from the NHL and going to play in the KHL"
Either way, that sucks... that's a crappy thing to have happen to a good GM

Meh I'll still use him this year, he is retiring from the NHL, not from hockey.
Stupid Russian hockey players.

Regardless I think that if Dave is still allowed to use him then he needs to pay a penalty of 3 2014 1sts to the 3 worse teams in the league. Just because.

Only if they are conditional picks.

Sounds like retirement. I guess if he signs somewhere he comes back as a UFA!
