Why'd you list Richardson/Lapierre?
Flames certainly didn't miss out on signing those scrubs.

Right now the only players I'd like the Flames to take a flyer on are Mueller and Blum, provided we can trade Jackman and Smith for a bag of pucks.
So, no. If anything I'm glad the Flames stayed out of this craziness.

Not really. They'll either cost us 1st's I'm not willing to give up, or the offer sheet will be matched.

I find it oddly relieving that the Flames aren't in the running for the 'top end' UFAs unlike the previous 8ish seasons. It's obviously a product of where the team is and where the team is expected to be in the next 2-3 years (and high-end UFAs aren't interested) but for the first time in a long time I feel the Flames' actions are in line with what the team needs to do to get better.
Once the farm system matures and the Flames have significant organizational depth and homegrown talent in key positions, then the GM can take a run at a UFA to compliment existing players.

They are getting paid what they are worth. They are hard to play against and the Flames are short of that commodity.
Both are 28.
If Jackman gets hurt to the point he can't play hard or fight there are no other players in the Flames org to take his role.

I agree with mrdonkey that it would be worth looking into Peter Mueller. Plagued by injuries early in his career, I think he still has much to give. High end talent that would be worth taking on for a 1-2 year contract.

Because Mueller replaces what Jackman brings to the team?
The reason you would want Mueller is that he might be better than Horak or Rienhart.
What does Blum offer instead of Smith? Especially at $775k. As a Nashville first round pick in 2007 he was given every opportunity to succeed and as a total of 91 NHL games.
Would he be a better #7 d-man .
PS sorry for engaging this thread was to evaluate UFA's already signed.

Saying Khudobin is ready to be a star is no different than saying Ramo already is a star.

Of the guys who signed yesterday?
Khudobin, but that would only be possible if McDonald was moving.
Pouliot, but only if 1-2 wingers were moving.
So really - no one, unless trades had have been made
The Flames need guys who can compete in camp, but could end up going to the AHL - taking a chance on some tweeners or guys getting squeezed out of an organization due to depth

And Komisarek at 700K. Terrible at 4.5M but there's no risk at 700K with him. If he regains his form at all, back to where he was selected for the Olympics in 2010, you got a huge bargain and a good right handed defenseman. If he plays like crap, you can hide him completely in the minors (you know, if you needed the cap).
Other than that, seems like all the other UFAs were overpaid and given too long of a term. Glad they stayed out of it yesterday, do this rebuild right.

I'm glad the Flames stayed put. Flames are in no position right now to bid for high profile UFA services. Let the rebuild take it's time and run it's course properly.

Even then the UFA that comes in and plays up to the inflated contract is very rare.
Most times it just throws off the teams salary structure.

Karri Ramo is younger than Khudobin, and has played a lot more NHL games
Since when was Khudobin "ready to be a star"? He was signed to be a back up
