I actually think that value, for what Weiss can potentially bring, is really reasonable.

He's put up consistent numbers for many years on a terrible Panthers team. I wouldn't call this an amazing signing, but it is a good signing.

He is a big improvement over Filppula. Not a #1 but a great 2nd line center maybe a 1b/2a center. He plays a 200' game and gives it his all. I am happy for him that he might actually get to play in the playoffs.

....and is probably not even in the top 5 worst contracts of the day. This was a great year to not be pursuing free agents.
