How do they sign Pietrangelo and Stewart after this signing?

I wonder, and call me insane for thinking this, if Backlund and Brodie get you Pietrangelo if they don't want to lock him up full term and big dollars.

You're crazy for thinking that...is he's on the market, other teams (including CGY, perhaps) would offer more for him.

If the Blues made Pietrangelo available I imagine the return would be a hell of a lot bigger than Backlund and Brodie. Teams would move heaven and earth to add a player like him.
But I think they'd explore trading Perron or even Bouwmeester before considering moving Pietrangelo.

Glad Roy is off the market, I was concerned the Flames would target him.

Pietrangelo would cost the Flames Baertschi, Brodie, and next year's 1st.

Pretty much had to go after him since their #1 target signed with Detroit.

Was very close to a point-per-game player between the ages of 24-27. Gets an injury, misses most of a season. Following year is pretty terrible for him and the rest of his team. Has a bit of a bounce back season with the Stars, 22 points in 30 games, before being traded to the Canucks.
4M for 1 year? That's a great signing compared to the other deals yesterday. If he continues to bounce back, great, if he doesn't he's gone next summer. Would have loved for the Flames to sign him for that contract.
Blues are a bit different. They don't got a huge ton of cap space but they got a lot of players on their roster now. I expect a trade from them, and whoever ends up being the casualty of Roy signing there might make him not worth it but I like it.

Pietrangelo would get a Seguin-like return, if not more.

Easily more. Even ignoring the off ice issues, Pietrangelo just has more value at this point.

You're insane
Pietrangelo is one of the best defencemen in the NHL. That package would need to get a lot better.

Feaster should target Perron or Berglund; pretty clear the Blues have to move salary out, and doubt anyone takes Halak

unfortunately Feaster doesn't have the depth of assets required to acquire Perron or Berglund.
This screams like a trade for Edmonton to make. They can offer a Yakupov for Perron and STL has to do it because they need to move out a contract and get value in return.

Why would Edmonton do that? If they offer Yakupov, they want a lot more than Perron.

Yakupov and Perron have a similar cap hit as well

Guess I should do my homework before I reply, hey?
OK - EDM's 1st in 2014 - cap clearing trade for STL like Vancouver did with NJ for Schneider.

What does Roy add to St.L? Was Andy MacDonald the key piece last year that they need to replace?..... Did they miss watching Roy playing in Vancouver's 4 playoff games? He was easy to miss.
They have enough cap space to sign Pietroangelo but not Stewart.
from the 2011-12 team that spanked SJ in round 1 and was 12M UNDER the cap
Gone: McDonald, Colaiacovo, Russell, D'Agostini, Arnott, Lagenbrunner, Nicol, Crombeen, Huskins and likely Stewart.
added: Roy, Lapierre, Bouwmeester, Leopold, Taresenko, Cracknell and are at the cap.
Are they better? They were harder to play against in 2011-12.
At what point does having more skilled less gritty players impact them?
Will the be packaging Pietroangelo or Shatenkirk some time at the All Star break because they are spending too much on the top 3 d-men? and the team lacks chemistry and needs a shake-up.
Is Bouwmeester really a franchise breaker?
