Default NHL's first Russian referee

Just saw on the Oiler's broadcast and I thought it was pretty cool.

Quote:
On Monday night in Detroit, when the Red Wings play host to the Edmonton Oilers, Evgeny Romasko will make some history when he becomes the first Russian referee in NHL history when he joins Paul Devorski on the ice at Joe Louis Arena.

The 33-year-old Romasko had some assignments earlier this season in the American Hockey League before returning to Russia to continue to call games in the KHL, but the NHL decided that it wanted him back and is giving him his first ever assignment on Monday night.

Pretty cool.... Really hard to believe given the impact Russia has had on the NHL... I'd be curious to know if there has been any Russian linesmen. Off to google I go!

Nice of the NHL to ease him into his new gig. One NHL team and one AHL team in his first game.

I think coach's corner this week will be must see tv.

Will he:

advocate for career AHL guys to be given the shot; or

call everyone's bias and come out and say the guy did a good job?
