Flames ownership squashed Seguin to Flames
http://www.csnne.com/blog/bruins-tal...y-traded-stars
Quote:
That incident coupled with stories of Seguin’s late night partying during the regular season prompted Peter Chiarelli to say that “[Seguin] needs to become more of a professional” during a tirade at draft weekend. The Bruins attempted to deal Seguin to the Calgary Flames last weekend, but ultimately Flames ownership squashed any deals for the six-year, $5.75 million contract for Seguin while they go through a full rebuild with inexpensive, youthful players.
|
also rumor that Bruins hired a guard to monitor Seguin:

Quote:
The Boston Herald’s Stephen Harris wrote today that Seguin’s partying this season became so rampant, B’s brass ordered Seguin live in a hotel, hiring a guard to make sure he didn’t sneak out.

Just kind of leads me to believe that Feaster is on a tighter leash than I initially believed.

If this rumor has legs, I love how ownerships attitude changed so quickly. They had no problem signing O'Reilly to a similar deal (shorter term) a few months ago and gave Wideman a massive deal last season. Maybe they finally (about damn time) realize this team does need to rebuild, even though a 21 year old Seguin could have been a part of that rebuild.

Impossible to get upset over this without knowing the offer.
For all we know we would have had to send 6, 22, 28, Sven.

Don't need him on our team. He may be young, be he's a centerpiece of a professional hockey team that went to the Cup finals. Take life more seriously and respect the hand that feeds you.

I don't buy it. This guy is trying to tell us that ownership did not want to spend money during a rebuild? He might want to look into what the flames ownership has and probably will do for decades to come, and thats spend money on the team.

This just reads as idle speculation from a single reporter. Nobody else has reported anything beyond the fact that the Flames and Bruins were talking.

Meddling Owners??? They OWN the team and should have the final say on any acquisition large or small. Would you own a multi-million dollar business and not make the final decisions?

I have a feeling we would've overpaid for him so I'm okay with it. Take some time with the rebuild and acquire assets without giving up too much of what we already have.

If so, then good on them. They seem to finally understand that you don't start a rebuild by trading away the few assets that you have. Seguin is going to be a player, but a team like Dallas is in a much better position asset wise to make this trade. The Flames need to draft and develop a core group, and then you can look at trading prospects that you don't consider in the core group in order to take that next step. We are at least 3 years away from being there, so I think it is refreshing to see that they are finally recognizing that.

I don't believe it because it makes no sense. At 5.75 million it's not an overpayment. Depending on what the deal would be I can't see the owners being against a young #1 center coming to the Flames.

If the kid went that far off the rails I'm glad we didn't give up any significant pieces to land him.
He might grow out of it, but not worth the risk IMO.

If the rumour is true, the hate is justified. They need to either trust Feaster or hire someone who they do trust, but they should not be making hockey decisions.

Judging by the Dallas trade, we would have ended giving up a lot. What pieces, who knows but can't judge without knowing
