On July 1st, the RCMP arrested two individuals and charged them with conspiring to carry out a terrorist attack. The two accused John Stuart Nuttall and Amanda Korody, who live in Surrey, British Columbia, took steps to build explosive devices and place them at the British Columbia Legislature in Victoria where crowds were expected to gather on Canada Day.

Thanks for starting this thread. Saw the terrorist charges on the elevator news and was very curious. Glad this was stopped.

Nuttall seems to be an appropriate last name for a terrorist a-hat!

I was down there on Monday night. Kind of surreal when it hits this close to home.

I hope they throw the book at these clowns. I don't know how you can ever let people like this back into society.

Are Canadian police better at preventing these attacks before they occur, or are there a lot of these types of arrests in the US that we just never hear about? I can't remember the last actual terrorist attack that happened in Canada, but we seem to hear about a foiled plot every year or so

According to people on my Facebook this is just the Canadian government making up stories so they can change the laws and monitor us like they do in the US.

there a higher number of these groups in the States then Canada. The fact that the U.S. has had a fairly limited number of terrorist attacks since 9/11 points to the fact that they've been fairly efficient at breaking these things up.
Canada the U.S. and other countries are all sharing intelligence information. From my understanding the attempted railway bombers was a joint operation, however it did piss off the American's a bit because we jumped the gun and hamstringed a investigation in the States.

Who are these suspects and what could have motivated them to plan such a thing?[ Related:#Bomb plot suspects' neighbour heard talk of 'jihad'#]Nuttall and Korody were both residents of Surrey, B.C., where they shared a basement apartment. Landlord Shanti Thaman told the#Vancouver Sun#they were recovering drug addicts who appeared to be living off of social assistance.According to Thaman, the pair has recently converted to Islam and could be heard listening to radical Islamist tapes in their apartment.A neighbour recently reported hearing Nuttall screaming into a phone about#jihad.
