Avs deal Kovalchuk
The Colorado Avalanche have shipped out Ilya Kovalchuk and Tom Pyatt to the Columbus Blue Jackets. In exchange, the Avs received Tyler Bozak and Cam Fowler.
The deal came down to saving some cap. Kovy was 1 year away from UFA. He is still a grid player regardless but it seems like the grid system is starting to change values. With both the Sedin sisters going for less then regular value and other big contracts like Datsyuk being hard to shipped out, I wanted to try and get the most I could while I had the chance.
I had Kovy on the block for almost all the off season and got 2 PMs with very low ball offers. About a month later MJK came by wondering the asking price and we made the deal today.
Bozak should get a pretty decent re-rate and it allows me to run a more defensive 2nd line with Pavelski - Richards - Bozak.
Fowler had an off year but can hopefully do what he did in his rookie season very quick. He played bigger minutes in the playoffs so hopefully that continues next season.
