Default Open Letter From the Chicago Blackhawks to the Bruins and the City of Boston

Quote:
In a final show of sportsmanship following one of the most exciting Stanley Cup Final series in recent memory, the Chicago Blackhawks are paying tribute to the city of Boston.

In a full-page open letter published Friday in the Boston Globe (view it here), Blackhawks chairman Rocky Wirtz and President/CEO John McDonough said "thank you" to the Boston Bruins organization and the city of Boston.

Love it. Pure class.

Well done! I don't know why, but while reading that I could not help but feel that the stark contrast of the behaviour of Canucks fans vs Bruins fans played into the decision to write that letter.

said privately between players or coaches that's a class act.
Stated publicly like this it's a damn PR attempt at Boston's expense.
Slap in the face indeed.

Wow...

You know that negativity prevails in CP when the only responses to a letter like that are negative ones. Don't forget to take your prozac fellas...

It reminds me of the letter Burke wrote to Calgary after the 2006 Flames-Ducks series. I haven't seen any negative reaction to the letter coming out of Boston, outside of this thread the reaction I've seen is that this was a classy move, not a slap in the face at all. Like I said in the series thread, I gained a lot of respect for the Hawks through the finals, on and off the ice.

After the way they acted the last time the Flames played them in the playoffs they have a long way to go before I would consider then classy.

This is a step in that direction though.

Tomorrow, there will be plenty of of this sort of thing. As many as three times during the first round, you may get the chance to hear Jay Feaster step to the podium and say, "the Calgary Flames want congratulate the Chicago Black Hawks on their thrilling Stanley Cup victory. We want to thank the entire New Jersey Devils organization and the fine city of Newark for their incredible show of hospitality..."

I guess it's the correct term but Chicagoans sounds like crap... I'd probably just try and write "the people of chicago" and avoid that abortion at all costs.

This was very classy and a great thing to do. Those being DB's about this, give your head a shake. This says to the hockey world that the Bruins fans, the City of Boston and the Bruins organization are a exanple of how you conduct yourself. Vancouver, its fans and the canucks, the opposite.

Nice gesture by the Hawks. But seriously what is going on around here with the negativity? This is an amazing time of year with the Draft tomorrow and all the rumors and speculation flying around. Some of these threads are barely readable.

As John McDonough, 'Hawk President comes from a PR and Marketing background, the ad as an open letter to the People of Boston, does not surprise me. I certainly don't think that it was meant to rub in the B's defeat or show up the people of Boston, but, was a sincere gesture of solidarity for the people of a City that had been traumatized by the Marathon terror bombings, that was , clearly, looking to the sporting world for uplifting feelings, in this case, the B's.

It had happened recently to another Chicago Sports franchise. When New Orleans was experiencing the rebuild in the year after Hurricane Katrina, the 2006 NFC Championship was between the Bears and the Saints...the media went on, ad nauseum, on what an uplifting influence the Saints' playoff run was for the people of the deep south, and that the Saints were a team of destiny. The Bears ended up being the villains the crushed that dream scenario (at least, dream scenario for the media), much in the way that the media played up the Boston Strong stuff, this year. (Unfortunately, in the ensuing Super Bowl, Lovie Smith got schooled by the Colts' Tony Dungy, and the Bears pissed away a game that they had gotten off to a flying start in!)
