COL-TB: Erik Johnson, 1st overall for Hedman, 3rd overall
adater @adater
Erik Johnson's name I've heard in a couple rumors. One: Johnson and No. 1 for Hedman and No. 3. Sorry, I don't do that if I'm Avs.
Personally I think that's OP by Tampa, I could see Colorado doing that deal if they feel Jones would be there at 3. Hedman-Jones would be a great pairing.
Anyone wanna tweet Mackenzie/someone reliable if they've heard this for me?

And then I assume Tampa would take Jones? I guess MacKinnon would fill needs for them too though. Weird trade though for Tampa to make.

You would think there'd be more coming to Colorado. Johnson/Hedman seems like a wash to me so why would they essentially swap those two and move down two spots?

I would take Hedman over Johnson (who is approaching bust status) but there would have to be more coming to the Avs.

It's possible that the Avs would be happy with any of the top 3. That would make sense why they were advertising their pick in order to drum up interest. Worst case scenario they get Drouin, that's not exactly a terrible thing.

IMO Hedman is clearly better than Johnson in every aspect. Don't know if the difference is big enough for the Avs to make that deal though ...

I think that deal favours the Avs. They get their young D-Man who's starting to round into form, they don't have to use their first on Jones and wait for him and they get an elite forward in Drouin at 3.
Perfect for them really.

Clearly better?
I am not sure he is better n any area over Johnson. I guess he is younger but other than that they are fairly similar.

This season, Johnson had 0 goals and 4 assists in 31 games. Hedman had 4 goals and 16 assists in 44 games ... so yeah, that's an area in which he was clearly better than Johnson in 2013. Before this season, I would have said that Johnson is the better player offensively, but Hedman has produced significantly more in 2013 while Johnson didn't produce anything at all. Hedman's defensive game still needs some work, but I'd put him over Johnson there as well.

That's one shortened season though. Seems a little small of a sample size to use when both have played longer in the league and that was Johnson's worst season by far and Hedmans best.

I don't see Hedman as that much of an upgrade to justify the trade

For all we know Col could have Drouin pegged as their favorite.

Absolutely, which would be why they would look at trading down to #3
But that doesn't men they should settle for less of a package than necessary

Why take him first when you can take him third and gain/improve an asset?

Depends on how much the other teams in the top 3 are willing to give. Not a lot of options there.
