Default Bernier to leafs

@lakingsinsider: Jonathan Bernier has been traded to Toronto for Matt Frattin, Ben Scrivens, and a second round pick in 2014 or 2015 (Toronto's option)

Great deal for the leafs. Kind of surprising with the way Rimer played.

Fantastic deal for the Leafs. I'm curious what the Flyers offered. Surely they could have made it happen?

It pretty much is a 2nd rnd pick for Bernier as Scrivens is a decent backup but nothing special and Frattin is a career minor leaguer.

Great deal for Toronto.

Makes the Philly rumours look silly or crazy if Philly ever thought about giving that up.

Goalies very rarely get you the moon. Just ask Gillis re: 7uongo.

Yeah, after all of the talk of this over he last few years I am kind of surprised that Bernier only went for that much. What are some of the factors that would have pushed the trade right now, other than just the offer from the leafs?

Frattin had a pretty good season this year and is just hitting his prime. Probably good for 40-45 points in the high range...pretty serviceable 2nd (high) - 3rd liner. Scrivens will be a solid backup to Quick for years.

Still, I have to give the surface examination of this one to the Leafs. If Bernier can live up to the hype they have basically solidified their #1 goalie. Reimer had a great year, but I think he is more suited to a season where he only plays about 25 games and works in relief.

Can't believe the Leafs got away with only a 2nd rounder...and it's not even in this draft.

I'm not 100% convinced that Bernier will be a good starter. He's done really well in the backup position on a very strong LA Kings team. Making the adjustment to playing 40-50+ games a season will be tough, especially as a Leaf. This is all assuming that they got Bernier for the starting position.

So two 2nd round picks for 34 year-old Luongo on a dreadful contract OR the Toronto package for a 24 year-old Bernier... no brainer.

Excellent deal by Nonis.

It's a good deal for the Leafs but I don't see it as being a huge steal. Goalie markets have been soft for some time now and he's certainly not proven as a starter by any stretch of the imagination.
