Default Calgary offers picks 6, 22, 28 for the first overall: no dice

As per Elliot Friedman on CBC

Goes to show how difficult it is to trade up.

If true, Feaster should go. That is massive overpayment.

Not massive overpayment at all.

Great try by Feaster.

#1 overall is a sure bet superstar. We need to build this franchise around such a player now that Iginla is gone.

So, its highway robbery and yet the Avs said no? Obviously its a good offer by Feaster if the other side didn't jump all over it.

Value aside, we really need more players in the cupboard, I want to have at least two picks in the first this year.

MacKinnon is amazing, but I'm glad this didn't go through.

Think Feaster might even add to that by draft time?

Hope not.

It's fair value but it would be a brutal move in my opinion. Calgary needs multiple good solid players, we're not one player away or even close.

I can't wait for the draft, both to see who the Flames get and so I never have to think about how much that late season winning streak cost us.

Well it was not a massive overpayment because the Av's said no.

With the news yesterday that ownership was not happy with Feaster, i wonder if he promised them that he could get McKinnon with the 3 draft picks?

I'm not exactly a Feaster supporter, but I'd be over the moon to give up our three first round picks for Jones or Mackinnon. Seriously, am I the only one who thinks you do that trade in a second if they said yes? If it's "massive overpayment" than wouldn't they accept the trade?

I don't think so, as drafting Mackinnon or Jones would provide Calgary with a franchise player. Also, the Avs declined anyways

Oh great, we're doing that thing again, where two threads on the same topic trudge along with an equal number of people in each one.

Even if COL thought it was worth trading the pick for that package, they wouldn't necessarily take the deal today. They might wait a bit and see if CAL sweetens their offer

Yeah doesn't suprise me that it was offered and turned down. Value isn't far off but Calgary probably needs to add still. From the Avs perspective, even if you like the offer and intend to move the pick you draw it out until draft day. Offers will only get stronger.

I believe the top 2 players in the draft are absolute franchise players and I'm happy to hear that Calgary, who sure needs one, is trying to chase one down.

I expect more fun news like this right up until picks are made on the 30th.

The other surprising thing that Friedman said that it looks like the first 4 picks are set and that they don't want to trade them. Don't think Calgary can offer more than Edmonton to get to #5.
