Going to play a bit of devils advocate here and mention that MacKinnon is one of the strongest top picks in a while. He has legitimate superstar potential. He is better than Taylor Hall, Hopkins, and Yakupov the last three top picks. He has Stamkos/Tavares upside.
This would certainly be the year to attempt a trade like that.
The problem here is the Flames have so few assets in the organization that they can ill afford to move three blue chippers to get one better one.
They really have the chance to pump some life into the pipeline of their organization with three top prospects and they should probably do that, even if they get a Logan Couture type player at 6 in Monahan, instead of a Stamkos.
