Wow. Not the choice I would have made, but will be interesting to see where he ends up as I have no doubt he will have another coaching gig in the NHL within 2 seasons.

Lets hope he's hired by no one. I'm sick of people gushing over his whiny interviews.

Knew this would happen. Sather must've grown tired of his bad boy persona.

apparently Lundqvist's comments were the last straw
Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC 44s Lundqvist comments after season "changed everything," according to a source
Nick Kypreos @RealKyper 14s #Rangers waste no time in making a coaching change. "Too many good coaches available to wait" I hear.

Any chance Feaster brings him here as an associate coach?

Was it really Tortorella's fault that Sather saddled him with ridiculously overpaid, aging players? I think the Rangers have overachieved since he's been in charge.

Had to be done. The team had scoring talent but could not score.
I wonder if they give Richards next year to find his game or its buy out in 2014.

If I was Sather I would target Vigneault as the guy to coach this team, especially considering how much talent they have. Also have to wonder if this means Richards won't get bought out anymore.

Probably something revolving around a complete lack of offensive strategy and relying on him to carry the team constantly.

Basically, he said he was disappointed in the season, and would talk to his agent about his options...implying he no longer wanted to stay with the Rangers.
"While John Tortorella and numerous players inside the locker room did not brand this season as a failure, Lundqvist spoke his mind and declared that the team’s second-round exit was a step in the wrong direction. “It is a step back,” Lundqvist stated on Monday. “We were in the conference finals last year; we had high expectations on ourselves this year. It didn’t go our way, so yeah — it is a step back. It’s tough to make it. You can’t just expect it to happen.”
Some columnists have chosen to interpret Lundqvist’s comments as a sign of his openness to test free agency. Other writers have taken it a step further, reading the tea leaves and interpreting his quotes as proof of his displeasure of Tortorella’s system and skepticism that he’ll never lift the Stanley Cup in New York."
