This is essentially for negotiating rights as he is a UFA July 1.

They are going to need to make some moves to get him signed:
Lee Snowden@SnowdenNHL1m
As it stands right now, the #Flyers have over negative $2M in cap space for next season.

Yea that is straight up negotiating rights his 4.1 mill a year expires this season..
Interesting that he decides to pack it now with the Isles just as they are on their way up.. or maybe the Isles decided to pack him in?

IIRC they offered him 3 years at 4.7 per and he declined.

Flames will gladly take Couturier off their hands, toss in a bad contract and Calgary can give them a 7th rounder in exchange.

I presume they will throw Streit the $5 million that Pronger would have made. More than likely Briere gets bought out. Still going to be tough. Bryz being bought out?

4.7 a year is good money for Streit.. probably more than he will see in Philly, I guess he just had enough with something there.. too bad as I see the Isles only getting better from here on out.
Looks like De Haan will get an even longer look at this years training camp..

briere seems like a buyout candidate for sure. Bryzgalov, maybe. Is pronger even buyout eligible given his injury status??

The Flyers have got to be absolutely kicking themselves in the nuts after dealing Bobrovsky.
He almost single-handedly got a Nash-less Columbus into the playoffs and got a Vezina nod.
Buying out Bryzgalov would suck, but the guy is just too wild to be worth the effort and money.

You've got to pay him anyways and he doesnt count against the cap so why waste a compliance buyout on him?

if they give him the 5m of Pronger's contract for a couple years, that's a good deal for them. They need help at the blueline badly and Streit is a good stop gap option. Draft a defenseman this year (Ristolainen, Zadorov etc) and let him take the reigns when Streit and Timonen retire. Makes sense in my book.
The Isles blueline will be interesting next season, I guess MacDonald and Hamonic will see even more minutes. I suspect they'll give the vacant roster spot to Reinhart now.

well, they can put him on LTIR, but in terms of cap, that's not in effect during offseason, so yeah - they are over the cap. As long as they are, they can use Pronger's cap hit to sign someone else during the offseason, but not a buck more than that, if I understand the system correctly.

In the other thread about the Islanders Snow came out and said that he wanted to make room for Matt Donovan and that he did not believe Streit would fit with the Islanders anymore.
It'll be interesting to see how the Flyers make this all work with their salary cap. Even if you ignore Pronger's contract, the Flyers only have $2.3M to work with and a number of NTCs on their player's contracts.
