Any Off The Board Longshots?
Are there any off the board longshots (ranked second round or below) you would like to see the Flames take in the first round?
My pick is Slepyshev. Not drafted his first eligible year, Russian and ranked in the second round most places, but first round talent.

If we are unable to pick up a 2nd round pick I wouldn't be upset if the Flames took a flyer on Justin Bailey with the Penguins pick.

Taylor Cammarata. Everything I read about him, it sounds like Johnny Gaudreau 2.0.
He's 5'7" 157lbs. Obviously we don't need another little tike in the prospect pool, but he put up awesome numbers with Waterloo this year. He was named USHL Player of the Year, USHL Forward of the Year, First Team All-Star, Most Goals, and Most Points.
He's going to the University of Minnesota next season. I'd say he's a solid 3rd rounder who could be a great asset. A small asset, but a good one.

You don't take these players in the first round.

Nick Baptiste RW. If he's there with our 3rd rounder we need to pick him.

Absolutely have to get a guy named Yakimov to go up against Yakupov. That'll give Rob Kerr fits.

A bit of a dark horse, but could be a mid to late round steal IMO.
(edit: Definitely not a first rounder though. I didn't read the whole 1st post).

Fun thing about those two matching up, is that Yakimov would plaster the pipsqueek Yakupov into oblivion night in and night out. Kid is huge.

If you think the kid has stellar talent I really don't see the issue with using a 3rd or later on him if he's atop your draft board at your pick. The worst thing that can happen if the Flames have too many talented but small players is that they can be used as assets in trades.

Nobody I want the Flames taking in the first round, no. I don't think we can afford to go off the board here.
One of my worst nightmares is that we reach off the board for a USHL or USNDTP player ranked much lower with one of our picks. I'll lose my #### if that happens, but won't be surprised.

I'll throw down 3 Cougars I'd like to see picked. Not saying these guys should be high picks, but could be some nice sleepers in the 6-7 rounds.
PG Cougars Chase Witala (F)
- One of the most skilled players on a young team. He is very fast, skilled- played a large role with the struggling team this year
- 15 G, 21 A- 36 Points in 57 games
http://www.pgcougars.com/roster/show/id/9129
Marc McNulty- or "Big Bird". (D)
6'6 D man who is a big, solid skater with a relatively decent set of hands
- 8 G, 7 A= 15 Points in 52 games
http://www.pgcougars.com/roster/show/id/9133
Brett Zarowny (G)
Really exciting young goaltender who was thrown into a difficult situation this year with the starting role on a very weak Cougar team.

Connor Hurley strikes me as a player that Calgary may have a large interest in. He was ranked as the 45th NA skater in CSS final rankings.
1. Youngest player in the draft (born on the last draft eligible day)
2. Briefly played for Muskegon in the USHL (We know we heavily scout that area as Deblouw was in that program last year)
3. Committed to Notre Dame of the NCAA and will likely be in the lineup next year.
4. Plays center
John Hayden could be another player I could see Calgary being interested in with the Pittsburgh selection.

A better title for this thread would be "why the Flames need to land a couple second round picks".

Every 80's kid knows what an awesome pick that would be.
Pick Justin Bailey and we get all the power ups, 255 missiles, 5 energy tanks and you rock an awesome speedo.
Do. It. Feaster.

In the 3rd round, Remi Elie. This guy will be playing top 6 on the London Knights this year. He's been slow to get ice time due to the logjam ahead of him, but he is poised to really take off after his draft.
I believe he is slated for the 4th round.
Kid is a good skater, throws big hits and has good hands. Just tough when you're playing 3rd or 4th line minutes on a stacked team.

Sadly doesn't look like it. Burakovsky is the closest to an 'owski on the board that I can see
