Doesn’t seem like crazy news given the ten hour restoration. Seems like a semi annual occurrence in Toronto

Here's hoping the black start procedure is up to date.

This looks to have started when a solar generator tripped which lead to frequency falling combined with a lack of system inertia leading to a cascading failure of the entire grid. The French disconnected the interconnection and it was game over for Spain and Portugal.

Wait....so you're sayinf the cause of this issue was unreliable renewables, a lack of spinning generation (aka mostly fossil fuels) and the French.
That's like a alt-right wet dream.

Smart by the French or this could have (potentially) turned into a much larger cascade. It’s wild how little frequency needs to dip before causing a major catastrophe.

Oh absolutely - that interconnect isn't big enough to support the frequency for the whole Iberian peninsula - better to black start Spain and Portugal than all of Europe.
