Default Goaltending these playoffs

It seems to me this year that there is very little between the best and worst goaltenders in the playoffs...this probably has more to do with the fact that the most elite goaltenders have struggled at various points this season, and that the very good goaltenders have really stepped up in the first few games.

Elite:
Lundqvist
Quick (cup)
Price

Very Good:
Anderson
Crawford
Elliott / Halak
Fleury (cup) - question marks are appearing again...
Holtby
Howard
Hiller/Fasth
Niemi (cup)
Luongo/Schneider
Rask
Reimer

Good, but playing very well:
Harding/Backstrom (Backstrom would probably be in the next category)
Nabokov

I don't think I'd feel that much more comfortable with one of the guys at the top of the list than at the bottom this year...

I suppose it isn't terribly different than last year (Nabokov, Harding, Reimer, Rask, Hiller and Price out --> Theodore/Clemmenson, Brodeur, Bryzgalov, Rinne, and Smith in), but the Philly, Florida, Pittsburgh and Washington goalie situations seemed a lot more questionable than any teams this year...

I'd start considering moving Niemi to the elite list. It may only have been a 48 game season, but he was the best goalie in the league this year, and should win the Vezina with many goalies faltering throughout the year, The rest I agree with though.

I'd put both Price and Fleury in the category of streaky. Can be very good but can also be very bad. Definitely not elite.

I haven't watched a Caps game yet, but Holtby's .49 GAA and his .983 SVP doesn't classify as elite?

Kind of hard to classify a goalie as "elite" when he only has 60 or so NHL games played.

Be that as it may, the title is referring to the playoffs. He's been great "these playoffs".

Do you think he is? If so state your case.

Fleury is really bad

They are a dark horse for luongo I think if they go out this year and the flower is even partially to blame

I thought he was stating that there is very little difference between elite goalies and average goalies theses playoffs. As in they are all playing well regardless of their regular season.

Why else would he have some goalies listed that haven't played yet "these playoffs".

With the scope limited to what ive seen so far in the playoffs this year, I would say Niemi, Quick, Elliot holtby and even Luongo had Elite performances so far

It's a weird point to make when ESSV% ranges from .980 to .882, and that's before Price just let in another 3 ES goals.

Price and Luongo have been just plain bad, IMO, and Nabokov has been exactly what you'd expect.

Van should be better with Schneider in net.

Right now, Braden Holtby might find his way onto Canada's Olympic team next year. Price lookedto have that job, but he seems far too inconsistant for a tournament of 1 and done playoffs.

I think Corey Crawford should be Canada's starter next year iirc holtbys regular season numbers weren't that great

Green test, right? Crawford has been good this year, but it's way too early to him in that conversation already. Don't forget that Emery started many of the Blackhawks games this year as well, and actually put up better numbers.

How are Niemi and Anderson not in the elite category this season? They've been spectacular both in the regular season and the early stages of the playoffs. I actually think the goaltending, save for Schneider in the third period tonight, has been rather solid in every series thus far (statistics be damned).

Price shouldn't be on the Elite list just because he's Canadian, come on!
